Default My "beater" wheels and snows

I just moved to Grand Forks, ND (not my idea ) and after already having an encounter with snow and RE050's in Oklahoma last December, I decided to lay down $900 and get myself a spare set of wheels and some snow tires.

Unfortunately, Tirerack was sold out of just about everything (snows) because it's now March, but I desperately needed some snow tires (it was forcasted to snow shortly after my arrival). I wanted Blizzak WS-50's all around, but I could only get them up front. I went with Michilin X-Ice's in the rear. 205-55-16 in the front and 225-50-16's in the rear with Tirerack's "Fox 5" wheels. I wound up ordering them right before I began my roadtrip from OK to ND and they arrived the day after I got here.

Overall, I don't think they look too bad considering they were $115 each. Sure enough, 4 days after I got here, it snowed a few inches. Enough to cover the roads. Luckily I had put the snows on and I must say this car is not bad at all in the snow with the right tire. I could get the tires to spin in the snow, but they just grab and the car takes off. On the other hand, the don't perform as well on drive pavement. I'm due for new summers too, so I guess I'll be dropping about a half grand more into more new rubber very soon.

Yeah those wheels don't look bad at all. Your car is looking silverstone-ish in that lighting.

Oh yeah, Winnipeg. I've talked to quite a few people who take trips up there from here. I'll have to take a road trip up there during summer with the wife when she gets here (when I'm not deployed to the Middle East ). I'm originally from NJ, so I'm somewhat used to the cold and snow, but it doesn't get nearly as cold in NJ as it does here (-50 degrees F? ). It was nice here today also. Almost 50 degrees. I drove with the top down for a little while. Should have seen the looks I was getting from the "northerners".

Unfortunately, yes. Wish they had tankers at Tinker. I wouldn't mind being based there, although with being gone 200+ days a year on deployments, I'm not going to see much of anywhere in the states. Just lots of desert sand.

I still owe you and your wife a few beers.

kinda like that one pic Jerome took in OKC back in December where yours was next to mine, Troy's and Jerome's. If I didn't know any better, I would swear it was silverstone.
