Default Re-11 tire size

I have a 2007 ap2 and need new tires.

I am going to get the Re-11s. I have done some searching of previous posts and it appears that 255/40/17 and 225/45/17 will fit the stock 2007 ap2 wheels. Is this correct?

It also appears that since these are slightly larger diameter tires they will affect the reported speed on the speedometer. Does anyone know exactly how much of a difference it will make?

I do auto-x a few times a summer and the extra grip from the wider tires would be nice, but are there any downside of putting on the larger tires vs. the stock size. other than speedometer reading and slight increase in cost?

Thanks,

Paul

You are only going to be about 1/3" different than the OE tires. You may only be off by 1 mph at 55 mph. It won't be enough to make a difference. There really is not a down side to the bigger size.
If I can help let me know.

The only downside will be slightly slower transient response because of the taller sidewalls. Maybe noticeabel, maybe not. Nothing that I would be particularly concerned with.
