I am just buying another S2000 after crashing the last one in the wet. I have already decided that I will be putting SO-3's on the rear.

The advice that I would like is.....

1. What size is best on the stock rims?
2. Are they okay on the rear with SO-2's on the front, or should I change all 4?

Also crashed in the wet and replaced rear with S03s, OEM size. I have S02s on the front. Seems to be much more stable in the wet now.

Get the 245/45/16 S03's in rear. The stock S02's have a huge tread width measurement...and you will want to try to compensate by getting 245's.

There is no problem running different tires on your car.

If you run the car on a road course, you will notice that the S03's will not grip as well as the S02's. But, in exchange...the S03's will last longer and be better in the rain because of the wider water displacement grooves.

I would never recommend to replace just 2 tires on a high performance car like the S2000. Why would you want just better wet traction for the rear? Don't both the front and rear tires hydroplane. Isn't most of your braking done with the front tires? Also with the S-02 in the front and the S-03 in the rear you would be exagerating the oversteer that the car has already.
I would say to always match the tires on the car and if you want to change, change all four.

Jim, I understand your point, but traction at the front was never an issue for me in my last car.... it was only traction at the rear in the wet. I guess you are right that it will exagerate oversteer in the dry... which is something I never encountered (maybe I drive too slowly!!), but surely, if anything, it is more likely to induce understeer in the dry??

I am not averse to changing all four, but many people appear to have changed just the rear tyres with no adverse effects, and it would save money if it could be done safety.

Please feel free to expand on your point or pull my argument apart. That is why I posted so that I could get advice from people that know .....
