Tyre/steering problem
I have enjoyed 36000 mile of fantastic driving until I recently put mny car in for it's 36k service and rear tyre change. All has gone to pot since and even a return to the dealer has resulted in no joy. Can anyone offer me some assistance please:
Year 2005
Wheel size 17"
Fronts (half way through life) - 215/45 R17 87W - Bridgestone
Rear (new, 700 miles old) - 215/40 ZR17 91Y - Bridgestone
The rear tyres were fitted at the service 700 miles ago and I have noticed are a little different to the two sets of rears I have had before. Immediately I noticed the steering had gone from being smooth and razor sharp (like being on rails) to dead and heavy at slow speed (20-40mph) and the car feel as though it is swaying over the road, bumps and turns. At higher speeds it feels alarmingly unstable and bends feel dangerous and light rather than fun and true. In a straight line at 70mph there is absolutely no feeling in the steering and if I give the wheel a little jerk the car sways from front to back left without the rigid stability it had prior to the service/tyres. It feels completely unstable and as though it could flip.
I can't remember the tyre number that was on the rear previously. Could they have been 215/45's?
I look forward to hearing from you. Nigel
