If you lower your car, you WILL rub. Even if you roll your fenders, you will sometimes rub in the fronts. The rears should be okay on such a small rim width.

Not true, I have run a 1.5" drop with 17x7.5 +48 front and rear with the mentioned profile tires. No rubbing whatsoever, I've run it hard on the streets of NYC and at the track with no signs of rubbing anywhere. Skip if you are rubbing with that, you should check your camber and alignment. A few degrees of negative camber can do wonders.

Dan, I apologize as I just realized we were talking about 17's. Notwithstanding, I agree that an alignment helps. Tire selection is also a big factor.
Allow me to clarify my previous statement. I am at work and will attempt a longer post. I am running SF Challenges- 18x7.5F and 18x8R. Both have +48 for an offset. My car was slammed. I have raised it three complete turns on all 4 collars(GC perches). I still occasionally rub even after this and rolling fenders. I believe I am still lower than stock though.
Right now camber adjustments are not an option. I probably drive mine more freeway miles than you or most. Three of us are also headed out to the California meet in less than two weeks. I drove to San Antonio and back last year. Freeway miles eat tires when the car is "properly" setup. Currently, I am only running my wimpy alignment- UK specs(-1.0F camber, 0.00 toe, 6.00 caster, -2.0R camber, .40 toe).
As for tires, I am running the BFG KDW-2's. The tire is pretty squared off compared to my previous tires... Toyo T1-S. And in summation, you will rub if you are lowered... on 18's! This is my experience with 18's.
PS: This is with ZERO sound equipment in the trunk and no passenger.

You only rub in the front?
I won't get the chance to drive her hard until the end of the month. She's going back in the shop to address my "attention-to-details."
I can say, that I am feeling better about the driving part, however, I loathed having to raise it from it's really low state. Combine slammed and a TS front and it looked
PS. Yes, it was mainly fronts yesterday.
