Default Flush&Clean Sub/Audio Install

First thing I did when i purchased my S was replace the horrid sound system. I got the bluetooth/pandora capable Pioneer headunit, Pioneer A-series component speakers in the doors, Alpine MRP-M1000 amp, Sundown Audio SA-8 500RMS. I have been a faithful Alpine owner of many Type R subs for years but didnt want the extra weight in the S. So, after lots of research I determined that the SA-8 was PERFECT. The magnet on this sub is bigger than the cone and the motor assembly is built well enough to allow play "free air". Amp wired at 4 ohms feeds this little 8" 600 watts RMS and boy does it bang!

I couldnt be happier. I screwed the amp to a sheet of mdf and then mounted in and with factory spare tire threaded hole. I always build my own boxes custom to the exact specs the sub wants but the customer service at ZEnclosures.com was INCREDIBLE!!! I highly recomend them. They do not offer a ported box for the S, but with a quick email an employee promptly replied asking for specs and said he could do it no problem. A+++ to them. Tell me what you guys think! Wish you could hear it... LOL

I couldn't find a ported box or diagram for one either, here's the 1 I built, custom to my JL W6. My quality isn't as good as yours, but sounds nice

Well, I cant take any credit for the box. I usually make mine with a table saw, the guys from Zenclosures use a program and CNC the pieces. Perfect pieces, every time. That's the way to go

Im a bit picky/ocd so since the install I have dyed the fabric of the box and trunk black so the two opposing hues of grey are gone.. LOL

i too just order an enclosure from Zen enclosures out of Tampa. i bought it last night around 10 on ebay, they had tracking # and everything else sent to me by 5 AM my time!

i grabbed the 12 inch enclosure at the largest volume (0.8 cubic ft) and i'm going to order a sundown 12 e line sub. the enclosure is sealed and a little small for the sub but i'm hoping some poly fill will help me out. does anyone know how much i should use to compensate for .2 cubic feet?

i too was an Alpine junky and currently have a alpine 10inch type s sub, but one of the voice coils is blown and it doesn't hit as hard as i'd like. i got an MRP 500 amp wired at 4 ohm.

do yall have any suggestions as far as resistance on the speaker i should use? from what i can understand a sub ran at 2 ohms will be louder than that same sub at 4 ohms. sundown offers them DVC only, and then 2 ohm each or 4 ohm each. i think i'm going to swing for the 2 ohm, my amp is 2 ohm stable but idk if i can get the resistance that low with two voice coils.

Blaq&Grey, how is your 8 inch woofer? were you impressed with the build quality of the Sundown vs Alpine?

Awesome! Im glad someone else turned to Zenclosures they are great to work with.

Deception9: I was VERY impressed with the quality of the SA-8 by sundown, ALTHOUGH this is their version two so im assuming some improvements were needed. Honestly, it sounds just as loud as my 12" type r. Ported vs sealed is always a debate but ported is my new thing. I always ran sealed until my last Type R beat the box apart. It needs to breath and move air.

The construction on the sundown audio was really nice. You will be very pleased. As for your situation with not enough internal volume.... If it was me, I would have looked into another setup. What you have ordered and on the way will be FINE and sound GOOD. But if you want to be nitpicky and OCD like me, LOL, I would have tried to go for a 10 maybe to meet that internal volume requirement.

BUT i dont know anything about the foam in the box like you were saying... Does that help? Keep me posted!!
