EPS light came on
yet another problem has reared its head. To set the scene. I was on the driveway holding the revs at ~3000 rpm as I had read this was done to allow the engine management to re-learn its settings rather than just leave it at tickover. They will have been lost with the numerous battery removals I've done during the overall I've been doing. All seemed ok besides the MIL light (now resolved, see other thread). I was not touching the steering when the EPS light came on and its still on.
Any ideas? I've not been working on the steering. I've had the car on axle stands and turned the steering a few times. Since then I've only driven more or less straight out the garage and back in straight. So the steering has had no abuse. I had been running the engine for a couple of minutes just sitting there when it decides to illuminate.
I read where the EPS can reduce the power consumption if it starts to heat up to save getting too hot and burning out. But does this cause the EPS light to come on and would it go out when cold? It could of got warm as I sat there on the drive as I was not moving so there would be no air moving.
This could be another learning curving in the steering components.

Solved. I read the Honda maintenance manual and it said EPS light comes on if the car is <1 mph and rpm are >2000 for 3 mins or more. Mine must have been. I think it clears once you go above 6 mph.
another phew.

I had the EPS light turn on while making a hard turn, battery wasn't tied down properly, caused the positive cable to come right off. Drove home and found that I was running off the alternator.

trustafox, thanks for this thread! I just got the S back together after some head work. After I ran the engine at 3k for 3 min to get it hot to circulate the coolant and let the computer relearn the idle, the EPS light came on! Since I've done quite a bit of work, I was worried that I did something wrong. Serching for EPS light problems, I came across your thread. Now I'm not worried about it. Thanks again!
