Dont think it was ATF as HONDA ATF is RED and most all ATF fluid and P/S Fluid is RED. Your clear fluid sounds like an 0w20 oil or something like that but for sure not ATF as i have 2 quarts sitting next to me and they are RED on the inside and HONDA has always used the same ATF fluid since FOREVER.
On one note NEVER run a SYNTHETIC Transmission Fluid in HONDA transmissions unless you feel like buying a new one in the future.

In the last few years I've used many fluids in the engines and transmissions of my Honda's. I have been selling parts for years and have had lots of time to do my own research and trials with just about every drive train lubricant on the shelf. My conclusion is rather boring though. I think Honda knows whats best for there cars and if there was something better they wouldn't hesitate to use it.
Honda oil is manufactured by Exxon Mobil to Honda standards. This standard makes it higher in quality then most oils sitting on your local parts store shelf.
The new Honda MTF is a prime example of Honda noticing a better product for there cars and not hesitating to switch to it. It is A very light gear oil made by Idemitsu Racing Oil's to Honda standards. If you haven't used it I would suggest trying it. If you Google Idemitsu you will find they have been around longer then almost any other oil company and dominate the Japanese market. In short its JDM! lol JK
The Diff oil on our cars is kind of up in the air since Honda does not offer a lubricant. Most dealers use 75w-90 Mobil 1. My preferred fluid is the Lucas 75W-90 Synthetic Gear oil for heavy duty and high performance applications. It is Hypoid gear compatible, (a requirement for S2K's, check for this on your choice of gear oil), and carries all properties of a good lubricant.
Putting all this aside the most important thing is keeping the fluid fresh! I change Oil and tranny every 2500 to 3000 miles and Diff every 5000-6000 miles. I have also learned that there is no replacement for doing things yourself. No one cares more about the job getting done correctly then you.
I know most people don't agree with this, and if you walked into my NAPA and bought Mobil 1 for your car I wouldn't tell you to use something else because it is a good product. Is it better for your car then regularly changed Honda Oil? Hard to say for sure.

And for the 100th time, this is why you do shit yourself.
When I was tracking SPLNDID, I changed out all fluids before every track event. ALL. However, since the clutch was shot, I chose to have the pros do the job since I didn't have a crew, it is hotter than hell in my garage, and I put my trust in the techs.
I'm blown away that the wrong fluid was put in my tranny. MTF for our S is NOT clear!
The tranny sounds and feels better all-around now that GMSMFM is put in. I have every hope that no damage was done as I did NOT stress the tranny in the 250 miles that that clear shit was in. If I had tracked that tranny, I am certain that the tranny would have blown bearings or worn out gears.
Frankly, I did not expect the techs to replace the tranny fluid in the first place! For a clutch replacement, the tranny has to be moved out of the way. It is a sealed unit!
This is not anything new to me... If you want it done right, do it yourself. I put my trust in the techs, and damn... I am a bit disappointed!
Cesar is an S expert. I miss his attention to detail and If I could, I'd have nobody but Cesar, and his fellow techs be the only ones working on my S. But DAMN! Earnhardt's is 55 miles away from my home!
Boof, I do all my own work where possible.
I suggest that the rest of you do your work well possible, and if the job is to large, take the S to Earnhardt's in Avondale.
Lastly, I want all of you to know that this S is one supurb sports car.
Every system is specific. Take care of it. Do NOT compromise.
Be certain that the fluids put in your engine and running gear is exact.
Don't do quick-change oil changes, and be specific about the lubrication fluids put inthe engine, tranny, and differential... because remember that our little 4-cylinder spins faster than most to develop its power.
Out!
Damn! What was that clear shit in my tranny anyway?

... It wasn't MTF for the S2000.
Just all take this as a lesson learned. Be specific and KNOW what is in your tranny and diff.
My S is running like a jewel now. Great driving car.

Please explain what would be the best formula in the tranny, and WHY would synthetic hose the transmission?
What happened here... and the reason for the thread must be understood first.
I recently had SPLNDID's clutch, pressure plate and flywheel replaced. About a year earlier, I had replaced the MTF to the new Honda formula and never really liked the way it felt in shifting and transmission noise.
After the parts were replaced last week, I assumed that the same Honda MTF remained in the tranny. Though the clutch transfer felt tons better, the sound of the tranny and the shifting remained crappy, so I decided to drain and replace the tranny fluid with GMSMFT. When I drained the fluid from the tranny, it was crystal clear - like distilled water and felt very thin. Obviously the fluid was changed when the clutch was replaced. So, I put in GMSMFM and all feels back to where I like it. Smooth shifts and less gear noise.
I want the best in my car. Please explain why we shouldn't run with synthetics - or perhaps semi-synthetics and what would be your ultimate suggestion?
I'm not going to track my car any more but will have spirited sessions just because I have the need.
Thanks,
CB

WOW. so much misinformation in this thread. I'll be posting a picture guideline for your viewing pleasure tomorrow.

Look,
If I cannot get decent information from those who really know what is real through experience, then I'm out of here!
I go to S2KI to share and get information from others... NOT attitude!
