I'm not stationed there, but I've been told by several sources (none official) that we can't bring relatively new left hand drive cars to Japan on orders. Not sure why because both times I've been to Tokyo I saw plenty of late model left hand drive cars. For now, the day I get orders to Japan is the day I figure out how to buy a true JDM S. If you figure out an official answer, let me know.

Jooboy,
you can't take your car to Japan. They won't let cars into the country unless they're old. I guess they want to stimulate their own auto sales. I'm not sure what the cutoff year is, but it's way older than what your car is. Plus, if you take a car there, you have to pay for a bunch of inspections and such that make it totally impracticle. But, you can buy one there I'm sure. My buddy was stationed there for a couple years and said most of the enlisted guys on base had wild modded RX-7s, turbocharged Mitsubishis, and Skylines. There are networks setup to make it easy for incoming guys to buy used cars. The locals know what you want and they want your money.
If it were me I'd get a Skyline. when else would you have that chance?
Good luck.
