I don't believe the number of pixels has anything to do with it. I mean most pictures posted on here are reduced to less than 1M pixel and still look good.

It has to do with lenses and CCD quality.

You are right. For the most part. But 3MP is the minimum you need to have a picture which you can actually print and have it come out decently.35 mm Film has an equivalent resolution of around 8MP.

Who prints pictures anymore? Do you print them and then post them to your friends?

I do. Even with the latest fancy blog/iphoto/editing software you can't really store and relive all the information that there is behind each picture. Only an old style album lets you have all the pics, postcards, keyrings, ticket stubs, etc in a single place.

That sounds dangerously close to Scrapbooking.

............... have not had a chance to get to a store to play with it yet.
Yesterday I dropped into a phone dealer and tried the iPhone. I see what that guy means when he described it as "smudgy". However, it was an in-store demo model. If I had one of my own I'd try to keep it a bit cleaner. For people who work with their hands (eg mechanics & gardeners) it would not be practical.

The "virtual keyboard" is not too bad to use - I didn't make too many spelling errors and I would be confident that I'd get better with practice. However, it was a bit of a pain to use numbers and special characters. This would become annoying over time.

Intuitive it is not. Couldn't get the camera to work. After several attempts to take a photo - I gave up. I could browse the photos that previous testers had taken but buggered if I could take one myself. Obviously, I must not be an Apple person!

Hmmm, Press the camera icon, aim and press the only button on the screen.

I downloaded a great app last week. It's called Shazam and when you hear a song you like you fire it up and it listens to a few seconds of the song then tells you what is is including artist and cover art. It even provides links to purchase it from itunes.

Works pretty much flawlessly even with speaking over the top and ambient noise.
