David Richards gives Stepney new job
Sep.18

Nigel Stepney, whose alleged actions of sabotage and espionage sparked F1's infamous spying affair this year, has landed a new job, according to reports. The Briton, fired and now pursued civilly by the Maranello based team and also by criminal prosecutors in Italy, will shortly begin work at Aston Martin in the UK, the Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport reports on Tuesday. The news, however, was not confirmed by Stepney's Italian lawyer, Sonia Bartolini.

Aston Martin, a luxury car firm, was sold by Ford earlier this year to a consortium led by Prodrive chief and incoming F1 team owner David Richards.

"We are confident we have all the right ingredients to take Aston Martin to even greater heights," he was quoted as saying at the time.

The FIA said in July that Stepney, and his 'Stepney-gate' conspirator Mike Coughlan, would be pursued by the governing body's legal department and possibly banned from international motor sport "for a lengthy period".

Let's see, David Richards owns Prodrive, so now if Prodrive gets into F1 in '08 with a team they will be starting off with all of Ferrari's details. And Astin Martin in some circles competes in the performance street market with Ferrari and I'm sure would be thrilled to have their engineers know more about Ferrari's F1 car.

And for whatever it's worth, despite all the differing points of view, I sincerely appreciate the ability to debate topics like this with such a diverse and intelligent community of F1 fans.

As do I!

I think Stepney will write a book about this whole thing. He'll need to, and it will need to sell, because by the time Ferrari gets through with him in court he'll need all the $$ he can get to pay the fines that will be imposed!!

Way to go Ronnie, you sure know how to run a team...

McLaren team boss Ron Dennis revealed at the spying hearing that he and Fernando Alonso were not on speaking terms following the Hungarian Grand Prix. "We are not on speaking terms, but that does not matter," said Dennis during the FIA hearing on Thursday, 13th September.

Apparently Fernando Alonso told Ron Dennis that unless he made him the #1 driver, he would turn over incriminating evidence. Supposedly Ron Dennis told him "go ahead."

This was rumor around Spa over the weekend, I have no confirmation of truth...

^ Media was reporting about the same thing. FA wants to be #1 no matter what, and RD just won't comply. I would say there is about a 99.9% chance FA will not be with McLaren in '08.
