Valentine 1 is a radar detector (or, in some folks' opinions, THE radar detector).

Actually I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one, having owned a Valentine One for 3 years, I finally switched to the Escort Passport 8500. Not only is it cheaper, but:

1. A LOT more sensitive. On I-5 at 130mph I picked up a cop speed trap 3-4 miles before I got to it. Same trip with a Valentine One only warned me about 1/2mile or so.

2. A LOT less false alarms. Don't get me wrong, unless you program a custom setting(yes it's programmable) you're still gonna get buzzed by all those X and K band automatic doors. I've been hesitant to program it to ignore these bands as the cops in kensington still use X band, and the cops in richmond/pinole still use K band. Ka band is still a sure bet on being a cop.

3. Cheaper

4. Immune to VG2 detection. This is a relatively new system which law enforment uses in LA for sure, and coming soon to a neighborhood near you. It is able to detect radar detectors, allowing the cops to use alternate speed detection methods (IE: eyeballing it, pacing, etc).

Hope this helps ya out... Keep in mind the Valentine One is still a very very good radar detector, just not the best in my opinion...if they ever update it, I'll definately consider getting another.
