only problem with goats is weight, and weight distribution. Typically mines are set for a heavier weight, so a goat having one hoof on a mine is not the same as a human with one foot on it.
I can already guess your solution - duct tape a few on top of each other.
The other problem is that just because the goats went through the field, it doesn't mean all the mines were destroyed. I'm not sure I want to be the first guy to walk through the field after the goats 'demined' it.
Yeah I know, make the PETA people walk through it first....

BTW, have you seen how big and heavy a goat can get? Not to mention a 5 year old child can set off the land mine, so a goat with a hard pointer hoof (more conentrated wieght per sq inch) should be able to set it off also.
No mine fields are ever truely disarmed. Sad, but true.

the new generation of US land mine have an expiration timer, they go out of service(aka will not go off) after a certain period of time, thus eliminating the problem in the first place.(let's hope the rest of the world will do so)
doesn't vietnam use to take criminal(or political opposition) to clear out mine field?
what are the cost of raising tons of goat and transport them around?
i am sure the people will not eat blew off meat with metal inside of them

I'm sure starving people will. Have you seen what those people eat to begin with. Plus mines don't blow the goat apart. People/Kids loose legs and arms, but live. So it's not like when they blew up the wale on the beach, it's not going to rain down Goat pieces.
