Voted for the Mustang...since it's the first Mustang that can actually hang in the corners. You're in FL too...no need for AWD

Mustang. I saw a kid driving a 5.0 at the local twistytrack (Adams) getting lap times in the Evo range. Stock Evos run 45 to 48 seconds depending on the driver. The Mustang ran 46s. The car had the stock wheels and exhaust, and probably everything else stock. Why not take the car with more straight line potential if they handle equivalently?

Because for most people, ownership satisfaction comes down to a lot more factors than just handling and acceleration times.

I haven't driven the latest example of either car so I won't pick one. However, based on earlier cars I have to say I like the Mustang better for a few reasons. The Evo probably does have the better steering and chassis feel (long time since I drove either and neither was pushed hard around the bends). However, the Mustang was the more relaxed car. It didn't sound as if they saved weight by pulling out the sound deadening. I also far prefer the feel of the V8's easy power (and not at all bad shifter). The Evo moved out nicely once the turbo was on tap but you had to keep it there. If you let the motor spool down it was just a 4 pot. The Mustang was calm and cool when you were relaxed but it jumped to life the moment you got into the gas. It was just ready power when ever you wanted it. It was never really in the wrong gear, just the less right gear.

As a less than 10/10ths car I found the Mustang to be better even if I don't care for the retro gauges and the car's width. The Mustang's driveline was just easier to play with.

Still, without having driven either recently (or a recent sample of either) I can't say which I would prefer.

When I drove the EVO IX, its driving dynamics spoke to me, although didn't care for the styling at all. If the new EVO drives anything like that, Evo all the way.

I have the 5.0 and just love it, I sold a turbo s2000 cause I needed a bigger car and back seat. Car is outstanding, the inside is IMO pretty damn good. The 2013 get even better, the aftermarket support is great and much more affordable. My car is stock and I ran a 13.1 on a crappy track, guys are getting mid 12's with just a CAI and tune which is like $600-800. I have had the car for over a year, the radio is pretty nice, talks to my I phone, seats are nice, top goes down slower than the s2000 but its not windy at all. I don't know much about the evo but the stang is a nice fast car for the money, they have good rebates as well. I like some of the upgrades on the 2013, hood looks cool with the vents.

Don't forget the 03-04 Cobra.

You talking about the kart track? If so, you could beat both with a stock powered Miata... Without trying very hard. Not knocking either car, or that track, but something that short and that tight isn't the best place to compare track performance.

lol @6.25
I know that he was talking and trying to be interesting while driving, but based on what it sounds like they did to that mustang, there isn't much that should be passing it.

When it comes to cruising and straight line performance the Mustang is hard to beat, I voted Mustang but I am biased having owned two before my Honda. The Mustang may be a boat but being a boat grants a ton of space, the trunk has plenty of room and the back seats can be used for storage. Looks are subjective but my nod goes to the Mustang as well, to me coupe>sedan and I don't know much about the Evo's reliability but mine never let me down and on the Mustang forums (which I am still a member of) I have not heard much complaints about them. The 6 speeds had a bit of a hiccup at first but Ford sorted that out quick, so go for the manual, it is much more fun.

It's preference really when asking folks on here. I don't like the exterior looks of the Mustang at all. On the other hand, I love the Evo X's with a drop and wheels. The gearbox on the Evo is as close to the S2000 that I have driven. The gates are tight yet smooth, and feels solid.

If this were me, I'd get the Evo X in white.
