I doubt many if anyone 'justifies' their purchase of an M3 by it being quicker around a track than a Mustang. The M3 is a lot more car than a Mustang and I doubt there are very many people that cross shop the two cars. While I'm very impressed with what Ford is doing and I will be taking a serious look at a 2011 Mustang GT in the near future it's because Ford has taken serious steps in the right direction. The M3 would continue to sell even if a Kia beat it around the track as it's a special car. I've owned quite a few cars and I have yet to find anything that even comes close to the total package the M3 offers. There is a reason you see just about every other car on the planet compared to the M3....
, and I don't even like putting my M3 on the track. It works well on the track, but IMO it's just too big and heavy for a dedicated track car (as are most other cars that people drool about for their Ring times).

I could never boil comparisons to other cars down to #'s, however. The M3 just feels right, and does everything w/ a very high degree of competence, while feeling refined and comfortable.

Exactly, it's not just about the numbers. At the end of the day you're still comparing the craftsmanship and engineering of a BMW to well...a Ford.

Lol BMW owners. My car is superior because of the engineering prowess and craftsmanship yet it's not any less problematic, expensive to repair, expensive, and not faster.

They are definitely, as a company, doing better than the rest of the big 3 in my eyes.
They are. The only thing that would stop me from buying a Pony is that I see them EVERYWHERE I go.

Aftermarket for them is huge. It's not that hard to personalize one and make it look different from all the other Mustangs out there.

Silly Mustang lovers. All you care about is money (money to buy, money to repair) and speed. Most people that can afford a E9X M3 can afford the maintenance and they are all still under warranty. I suspect if you pulled up reliability ratings for the last few generations of the M3 vs the Mustang it wouldn't fare well for Ford.

Nevermind the fact that the M3 looks 10X better, and can be quiet/comfortable/luxurious while remaining sporty when you want it to be and has world class steering feel/brakes.

Mustang may be faster but it is a one trick pony (no pun intended). And at the end of the day, you still paid 50K+ for a freaking Mustang. You're represent the type that prefers a Coors light when a 50 year Macallan scotch is being served
