Continuation of Socrates NSX thread
Steve, many of your assertions are simply not true. I'll address the paint here, and when I have time I will attempts to adjust those views who may have been skewed by accepting what you write as fact.
NSX Paint Process:
The NSX undergoes a 27 step process in the paint process, including a 4 coat, 4 bake process. Included in the total 27 step process is a complete wet sanding of the body (part of what IS a hand assembled car). The paint finnish on the NSX is one of the finest you will find. Next time you are around an NSX with an OEM paint finnish, take a close look. It is flawless.

Hand built:
That was part of the design philosiphy, and Honda did stick to it. While your definition of hand built might not be the same as most auto manufatures, most accpet that because the NSX is assembled by hand, including the engine (all engines by one single individual), including match weighing of internal parts, that it is indeed "hand built."

The hand built / assembled thing is a point of debate. Every car line uses people to assemble things (dash, seats, etc). The major difference between the Tochigi plant and others is their use of a rolling jig to move the cars between stations -- instead of a true assembly line. The concept of a hand built motor is not unique to the NSX either -- my old Cobra had a motor built by two guys who stamped their signatures on it ... and I know AMG uses a similar process.
Here is how you build a sexy exotic for a little over $35k
Take a normal nsx. 1991-1994 model, Coupe. It has no powersteering which gives the driver ultra precise steering and feedback. The coupe also has an extremely stiff chassis.
Weight in at 2700 lbs.

Low mileage ones ( under 30k miles ) can be bought for low to mid $20k. ( Winter is the best time to buy sports cars. )
Now throw in $5k to make it look like THIS!

Or this if you prefer:

Now for POWER.... Give it close to 400 HP w this blower at $5k and still maintain the NSX's flat torque curve.

Total cost?
Approx $35k. $40k max if your not so good with price negotiations.
Not too bad for a reliable, comfortable, FAST, Ultra precise handling, exotic supercar looking machine huh?
Remember, this will be a light weight car with close to 400 hp. Now that is fun to drive.
This is ORGASM on wheels.. Can you think of another car under 100k that looks as good as this and give you the same type of driving experience?
I'm thinking of doing this projcet come winter.

Sorry, it's not that light. Try ~3000 lbs, give or take depending on fluid levels.
Low mileage ones ( under 30k miles ) can be bought for low $20k
With a title that says it has been totaled. Under 30k miles, try mid $30's for an early coupe.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but your're dreaming. The body kit you show costs $8,800, and that does not include paint or installation. And were not even considering that you would have to get new wheels to fill the fenders.

Sorry, wrong again. That SC is a bit more at $6,800, and it does not achieve 400rwhp at that price. My personal opinion of that SC is not favorable. Want power for an NSX? That is achieved from Factor X Engineering or Performance Autoworx, using a turbo build. There you are looking at more than $18,000 for 500 rwhp (or more) that is built to be relaible.

my old nsx-t on a highly accurate digital scale calibrated at the NIH was 2890 on 1/2 tank gas stock. later i took a friends coupe ( 92 ) and it weighted close to 2700 full tank.
mid 30's is the asking price.. you will be amazed how cheap you can pick up sports cars in the winter. ie. new M3s last winter went 1k UNDER invoice. new 911's were selling for low 50k ( mid 60k sticker ). Come winter make an offer to a motivated seller when dealers will only give them below wholesale prices..
5k is the list price of their kit. Their carbon fiber version is like 8k..
$5k for the supercharger price is the discounted price i've seen posted. close to 400 hp is at the crank. multiple rwhp dyno plots show mid to high 300 hp range at the wheels.
even if your a dummy and pay retail for everything the cost will not go above $50k for a really nice car.
the point is not to nit pick pennies on the price.. i just wanted to show ppl what can be built for relatively cheap price.

Dude, do you think I'm an NSX dummy? I just tore that POS SC off my NSX. Sure you can get that SC for 5K, but not new including install, and still then it won't make 400whp. Heck, I'll sell you mine for $1k! I know Chris (I'm in the background of one of those pics) and you still didn't account for paint, install and wheels for the widebody (and there WILL be tweaking needed). Your on crack if you think nice 30k mile coupes go for low 20's! I'll buy everyone you can find, cash, right now. Oh, and many of us NSXr's try like hell to reduce the weight of our cars.
