Gear
I prefer Shoei helmets, but ride with an HJC currently due to having to sell my Shoei in my divorce. The higher dollar brands of lids (Arai, Shoei, Suomy, AGV, etc) offer many more comfort amenities than the KBC, HJC, Icon levels such as removeable liners, adjustable cheekpads, more ventilation, better shield swapping systems, breath guards, no-fog visors, etc. Of course, some of the lesser priced brands do offer some of these comforts, but the more expensive brands usually offer ALL of them.
As far as riding gear, if i am cruising to the store for some milk, i have an Alpinestars textile jacket i wear. If i am riding anywhere else, it is a Teknic 1-piece leather riding suit with Alpinestars gloves and Alpinestars boots. I actually have a Teknic suit on ebay right now, selling rather cheap as it didn't fit me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Teknic-Leat...sspagenameZWDVW
some good stores to look for gear:
newenough.com <--best deals, GREAT customer service, and all around friendly people
kneedraggers.com <--offer leather rentals if you have a track day or just want to ride in a suit for a couple of days before committing to buy
ebay.com <--have to be careful here, but if you know what you are looking for you can find some great deals on good gear. NEVER buy a used helmet tho. Just because there isn't a huge crack on the outer shell or a busted facemask, doesn't mean the lid hasn't been down and is damaged. ALWAYS buy new helmets.
