Default how does a new M3 stack up?

I wanted to look at 0-150 mph times but some tests didn't go that high so I will just look at 0-100 mph.

I think 0-100 is more telling than 0-60 which can be due to a good or bad launch but by 100 the car is stretching its legs a bit.

the GTR is not tested yet have to look at this thread in a few weeks I guess.

Times are from the major US mags (C&D R&T etc..) don't blame me if it's a weak time I'm just going by what they print.

Times with manual tranny unless specified (ie. F1, SMG etc..)

Mazda MS3 14.2 sec
S2000 13.8 sec
Cayman 13.6 sec
IS350 12.7 sec
SHelby GT 12.6 sec
335i sedan 12.3 sec
Cayman S 12.2 sec
M Roadster (330hp) 11.5 sec
Aston Vantage 11.4 sec
RS4 11.3 sec
RS4 10.7 sec
R8 SMG 10.5 sec
Shelby GT500 10.3 sec
M5 (Manual) 10.3 sec
R8 9.9 sec
C6 (400hp) 9.9 sec
Shelby GT500 9.9 sec

M3 9.8 sec
IS-F (auto) 9.8 sec

S600 (auto) 9.7 sec
AMG E63 (auto) 9.7 sec
911S 9.6 sec
Gallardo Spyder 9.6 sec
M5 (SMG) 9.5 sec
LT3 C6 Z51 9.2 sec
C63 (auto) 9.2 sec
M6 SMG 9.2 sec
M6 SMG 8.9 sec
GT3 8.7 sec
F430 F1 Spider 8.5 sec
Z06 8.5 sec
911 turbo 8.3 sec
Z06 8.3 sec
Gallardo SL 7.9 sec
Z06 7.7 sec
SRT10 Viper 7.6 sec
Veyron 16.4 (DSG) 5.5 sec

Some cars tested multiple times, I put in more than one so I could show how a few tenths of a second here or there. The Z06 has almost a one second spread worst to best.

Interesting things to point out with a Cayman S similar price ot a M3 more than 2 seconds slower (almost the same times as a 335i).

Although the M3 "is not a drag car" it's quicker than 500hp Mustangs (tho maybe they won't be stock for long).

M6 nipping at the heals of the GT3, while the Corvette LT3 is not far off either.

R8 and Vantage both kind of weak. I know great cars but could use some more speed.

C63 quicker than it's big brother E63 and darn quick (3 seconds up on the CS)

Nice list Rai. Damn, I didnt know an M6 could take 8.9. I wonder how much the new DCT will shave off the M3's time.

let me tell you that M6 can run (I think they under-rate it) here is the 0-150 time for the M6 (from C&D) 19.5 sec.

Here is the 0-150 times for

500hp Mustang 30.3 sec
400hp Corvette 26.8 sec
M3 24.3 sec
LT3 C6 Z51 23.5 sec

In other words the M6 (at least this one tested) can get to 150 mph 5 seconds quicker than the M3.

It looks like the (stock) M3 will keep up with a C6 436hp 428-TQ (at least while the C6 is stock as well)

I just made this list to see where the new M3 is at.

Its not a drag car, that's not what I am looking at, but just to see it's got some good company and 1.5 to 2 seconds quicker than the e46 M3.

I wonder (hope) BMW will bring out a SMG tranny which is the talk and if that would make any difference. I suppose shave a half second in shift times (?) I know they shift super-quick and the power doesn't let up much with shifts.

I really would like a DSG-type tranny and keep my S2000 for it's MT perfection.

Yeah, there is A LOT of talk on the internet that the next update will have 567hp. That is SICK.

I will say a hundred times, straight line acceleration is not all important, but it doesn't hurt.

I find it kind of OK to see the M3 may run with the likes of the C6 and 911S at least in a straight line.

How could I forget the IS-F just added to the list funny how it's the same as the M3.

by looking at these numbers, 0-60 doesn't make sense anymore these days.
