Actually the Eclipse has been on the Galant platform for a long time, I think even back as far as the 1G model.

As far as its weight goes, there obviously were some poor engineering decisions that led to this. A Nissan Altima SE, which is nearly as powerful, has a ton more space and can also be had with up to 260hp and a 6-speed (and costs the same), sits at about 3100 lbs I believe. I'll take the Altima all day long over this Eclipse.

It'll torque steer like a biatch. My mom had a '94 3000GT with 222hp and you had to hang on to the damn wheel because when you put your foot down in 1st and 2nd gear (especially 1st), it'd want to go every which way but straight.

Yep, that's what will happen when you put a powerful engine on a SUV platform FWD and no LSD.

...How could you say HP/L isn't an important argument since they didn't go they same route as the corvette and go with a large displacement and a shitty hp/l?
What are you talking about? You're comparing a Vette and, of all things, an Eclipse, as if they're in the same class. There's a hundred reasons both obvious and otherwise why a Vette has the engine it has (history, fan base, tradition), and why the Eclipse has what it has (FWD GT, constant depreciation, little history); I doubt hp/liter had anything to do with why each respective manufacturer used their engine. And if hp/liter was that big a deal in this case, why didn't Mitsu get more power out of a V6 larger than any of the big 3 Japanese makers' 6s?

Hp/liter matters not one iota to 99.9999% of the average driver out there.
