(BTW not trying to start something, just really curious how people decide to drive around a 20k beige-mobile everyday while their 75k super-sports-coupe gathers dust in the garage, I know I couldn't do it)
Call me crazy but for most daily driving, anything more than an accord is a waste imo. Bumper to bumper traffic and most commutes you just go into auto-pilot and aren't really driving most of the time. I could largely careless what car it is done in, so why not just be a cheaper car? I do think cars are meant to be driven and not just be admired collecting dust in the garage, but for myself I don't get any more pleasure driving a beater or a nice/fast car. If you do get pleasure out of driving the car every day more power to you.

Well, I walk to work, but when I did have a commute, it wasn't "bumper to bumper" traffic it was a 50 mile drive each way out into the country. I would assume not everyone suffers through a horrible commute. Having said that, the m3 is "nothing more than an accord" when you are sitting in traffic so I don't really see the harm in driving it everyday. I am sure it has luxury features that would make your commute more pleasurable even if you couldn't unleash the beast on a regular basis. Considering that he is a Pilot though, it sounds like he doesn't really have a "daily drive" at least not in his own car.

I was just curious how he came to the decision to not daily drive it. I get that some sports cars are a pain to drive in traffic but the M3/M4 seems like the ultimate dual purpose car IMO. To each their own and all that. I couldn't afford to have a 70k sports car and a daily driver (I also don't have the garage space for it) so that's partly my perspective.

My suggestion. Pick it up in Europe and take your wife on a romantic getaway. She'll probably won't mind the payment if you wine and dine her

I'm jealous of those that don't live in a crappy metro area and have to endure bad traffic regularly. I guess I'd probably get more enjoyment driving a fun car in that situation. I also was playing devil's advocate with my response. If I had a long commute and didn't want to rack up "pointless" miles on my nice car, a beater to drive 3 or 4 days out of the week is great to have.

I knew an old guy that used to do quite a bit of drag racing (proly still does) that drove around an 89 civic hatchback (this was about 10 yrs ago). I asked him the same thing, and he said it suited DD for him as he could haul stuff easily with it and didn't have to worry about it getting scratches/etc. He also had a nice SLK AMG and a couple other cars.

I don't like giving advice but tell the wife. I speak from experience - bought a GTR in 09 and showed it to her when I took it home the first time.

I wouldn't ever make a purchase like that without consulting my wife. Not because my wife would freak out or anything, but because it sends the wrong message.

That said, nice car.

What message is that? That you wear the pants in the family?

I haven't really touched on it yet but since you guys brought it up, it seems like a good way to end up on divorce court to me. Buying the C7 was a test of our relationship and I was very upfront about my desire to do so. Then again, I am a bit of a serial car buyer/seller so if this is like a one time deal and its no biggie to swing the cost, it could be no big thing. Did you figure out how comfortable it would be to sleep in?

If you are counting on her "love it so much she isn't mad" you might be in for a shock, unless she is a car nut too...

Awesome! I have to ask though, why not M3 with a family and all? Just for looks I suppose?

I actually debated, I was back and forth, but I have a 4-door Sonata as my daily so if I need the room, I'd just take that. I also like the coupe's looks slightly more
It just bugs me that there is an up-charge for the 2-door...

Why not dump that Sonata and drive this full time? With the previous M3 the gas mileage was so horrendous it made sense to keep it as a second car but these are quite a bit better.

certain sports cars sacrifice so much in usability that a "normal" car is actually a more enjoyable experience as DD.
also, some people would worry too much about their brand new ride parking out in the sun and risk of damage day after day. driving a cheap beater to work and having peace of mind outweighs the 15-25 minutes of fun in a really expensive car.
