From #32 down, those are all cars I'm sure none of us would mind even owning one of.

But I have a deep addiction to racing, and speed. The Evo satisfies my speed fix better than anything else. Regardless of the numbers, on a track, the Evo whoops on everything else.

Why spend money on David and Goliath, when you could focus it all on David and make it completely unstoppable.

It's all about the drive and experience right?

...well, unless you want to look the part on the street
I think it is great that you find in the EVO what You were looking for and the STI/EVO brought a new kind of performance to the market . The rally car heritage for the street. However for some of us this is not what we are looking for regardless of the performance . I can't get past the whole 4 door sedan looking performance car! Uh give me a sleek 2 door anyday. This is the same kind of reason that BMW does not satisfy me either - Way too sedate looking sedan . Give me the M1 anyday!
If you have driven any recent 911 the drive is an experience way better than an STI . You could mod the STI and make it faster but in the end which would you rather have . A fast Subaru or the Legendary Icon ? No real wrong answer but to each his own. To me the 911's steering, braking, handling, and the sound, feel, and torque of that flat 6 is on a whole different level.

I think those of us who really like these AWD performance saloons/wagons like them as a DD. In fact they are the perfect DD for a few of us. In no way could it replace a RWD 2 door weekend fun car as I'd like to have both. But I ride a motorcycle and that is my weekend machine so I don't NEED a car for that. For me, when it rains, or during any inclement weather I know which one I'd rather be driving. I never liked having to slow down in the rain. If we are talking a track car, sure I agree with you, but I don't live and drive just in the dry, I needed a machine that could drive year round in any weather condition and in that scenario I'll take my STi over a Porsche. Now if I could afford 2 cars I might just have a Cayman S in the garage. My STi at Stage 2 (very reliable) will make 300HP/320LB at the wheels and do 0-60 in must about 4 seconds flat. $31.5k purchase price + 2k in mods (Stage 2 and sways) makes a lot more sense than double the price for a PCar. It was cold and rainy this morning on the commute into work and I was flying past everyone in the fast lane. I wouldn't do that in a RWD sports car, in fact, passed a nice C6 who was driving very modestly due to weather conditions. Don't forget that a Subie shares some DNA with a P Car, it has a boxer engine too

The day I start talking about brand prestige when talking about a car...

Then again, I guess I would if I had nothing else going for me. It's one thing to talk about actual prestige (academic pedigree, etc.) and another thing to talk about the joys of buying prestige through a used car.
yea cuz you'd love your LA gear kicks more than your air jordans right? bboy shoes are bboy shoes eh?

pls

I have a Cayman S, but have subsequently tested and contemplated buying an STI. Driving experience, no comparison, but the STI is about as good as it gets for a combination of performance, practicality, and value (at real-world prices, not MSRP). But Tommy, don't think your STI can defy the laws of physics in slick conditions, as it prob. won't stop as fast as a Porsche in any conditions. OTOH, the Cayman S is very balanced and confidence inspiring in the rain, though I'm not out to get my jollies on wet public streets no matter what I'm driving.

My Porsche can't haul my family. I can't commute in it unless I drop my kid at childcare and then go back home to get it. I'm not going to pick up mulch from Home Depot in it. My wife and I can't take it on weekend hill country drives unless we have a babysitter. But it's perfectly well-suited for normal DD usage for up to 2 adults, and turns the most mundane drive into a sublime experience even when you're not pushing it. It works well for me as an occasional-use toy, but if I had to consolidate the Ridgeline and CS to one vehicle (and quit dirt biking), the STI would be near the top of my list.

Different tools for different jobs.
