Solstice GXP
do u read reviews...the paid by the corporate wuss writers say the engine lacks power and is thrashy...how is this an exciting motor???
those 1000+ hp race motors use custom tranny's that cost $30,000.00
thats more loot than the original car......i'd rather have a Vega(Cosworth)

ok, let me add something here. to whomever said that there are no stock motor 1000whp supras, you are mistaken. some magazine in 04 had one on the cover that made 1080 whp on a completley stock motor on gasoline. i wouldnt have the balls for that, but it has been done.
the gm 1400 hp claim is not wheel hp but rather flywheel horsepower and it is on a completley built motor. that is like 1200 whp. keep in mind that is on alchy. for comparrison sake kenny trans civic makes 1017 whp from a 1800cc's on alcohol. the gm motor has an extra 600cc's assuming that thier 1400 hp setup is still a 2.4 liter. it may be bored and or stroked further.
gary gardellas civic made a little more power than kenny trans and so did a few others but i dont know any exact numbers.
the point is that the ecotec is swell and all but its not the best thing since sliced bread. bob norwood built a 2.4 toyota motor for christian rados scion drag car that made 1400 horspower. i dont know if that is flywheel or wheel horsepower but either way it shows that the ecotec is nothing super special. dont get me wrong it is great that gm has decided to take all of the mystery out of building thier engines with thier build book for these engines, i just dont think we need to start sucking each others dicks just yet.
i have seen supras with built motors on race gas that make 1300 to 1400+ whp

You can take damn near anything and strip it down to just the block and then completely rebuild it with aftermarket parts and make lots of power... the ecotec is not the first engine to have done this. I just don't see what's so impressive about an engine doing what countless others before it have already done.
with that out of the way, this 260hp solstice is going to be quick, should hand a stock S its ass no problem in a straight line anyway. I saw one in C&D with a hardtop, looked pretty hot overall but I still can't get past that pontiac grill.

does the s2k make 260 ft lb tq... i don't think so. let the car prove itself. maybe then honda will up the hp on the s2k.
yes, but they don't have a 4.1:1 rear axle ratio either.
IMO the whole TQ thing is a little overblown...yea you are fast at low RPMs, but when is the S ever AT low RPMs in a "performance" situation? The gearing makes the torque at the wheels the same given the same WHEEL ROTATION speeds. The fact that it matches or beats the acceleration of cars with gobs more torque pretty much proves it.
Still, I think the GXP will be a little faster in a straight line, probably .2 in the quarter mile. However fast the new Z3 3.0 is is about what the GXP should be.
