How soon people forget. The Plymouth/Chrysler Prowler comes with NO trunk at all, zero, zilch. The Prowler was also a roadster put into production under Bob Lutz when he was heading Chrysler. The prowler did have an optional "matching" trailer that you can hitch to the back to haul your golf clubs.
Yeah... and we all know how well that car did

The Prowler was in production from 1995 until 2002 (or was it 2003?). So it sold enough for Chrysler to keep it in their line-up for so many years, even without a trunk. Besides, those cars are now so rare that they are becoming hot collector's items -- sort of like the Edsel of our time -- and the owners are laughing all the way to the bank.

i'n not even test driving one of these until the turbo version is released

i'll worry about other shortcomings at that time

177hp is low enough for most people i know to not even consider this car

Wow from that angle ... the top doesnt look too "smooth"
the top has two wings or flying buttresses (sp) that have to be folded down after the hatch/trunk is closed, I guess it'll smooth out then. But IMO it sounds too fussy. I mean it's great for looks I guess, but too many steps in the process. The Miata is as simple as un-latch and toss the top back can't get any easier than that.

Exactly, I really don't care how the 177hp version stacks up against the Miata, because honestly I'm not interested in either one of them. I'm interested in how well the F.I. versions stack up against the S2000. Even then, already owning an S2000 my next performance oriented purchase will be a Z06, so I'm not exactly the target market. Still, I'm interested in seeing how it stacks up. GM historically does very well performance wise, so I'll not really be suprised if the numbers match up favorably with the S. I want to see how good the car feels on the road. What a lot of people seem to be overlooking is everything I've read indicates this is a much more comfortable driver than either the S2000 or Miata (comfort isn't a requisite for me in a sports car but it may be for some) and I know quite a few people who simply can't fit comfortably in my S2000 (if your over 6' it starts getting tight), for those people this may be the only choice in the class.
Back to the point of the original post though, that trunk is a serious design flaw/compromise, a flaw that before owning an S2000 and seeing how often I rely on it's relatively spacious trunk I wouldn't have even considered a problem. I read in one of the reviews GM stated two small golf bags could be fit in the trunk, I'd like to see how they pulled off that feat.

Another thing, it's really disappointing to see how many in here are willing to knock on every little thing (especially on new car in this particular market segment in which practicality isn't exactly primary concern in the first place) that might be wrong with a car they've never even drove, rather than welcoming new market segment competition. If nothing else, it could cause Honda to improve their own roadster. It smacks of the same morons I see in the Corvette forums who discount the S2000 without ever having driven one, usually spewing out the same old tired "it's got no torque" BS.

There are rumors that Honda lost money with every NSX sold. I wouldn't doubt Prowler did the same thing.
