In other news, one of my wife's circle of 'baby friends' has one of these idiotic contraptions.
As if doting parents weren't distracted enough by every grunt from the rear seat, these things allow them to stare lovingly at the little bundle of joy right up to the moment they plough into the line of stationary traffic.....

Like it or not, its a natural reaction to check that your child is ok periodically. Its better to be able to glance in your rear view mirror and see that they are ok than be turning around and not looking where you're driving.
