Read the numbers again!
No need, I meant on that particular road, as the op suggested they are the very similar

One of the best playtimes i've had was against a Cayenne, funnily enough! I was in the Sti.

It was all in good spirit and went on for a while. When he caught up next to me at the lights he was giving me the thumbs up like an excited schoolkid (must have been early 40's)

I noted his wife looking REALLY unhappy about it all

The Cayenne seemed to corner very well. I won't repeat the details, but there was some good fun had.

It's spreadsheet time.

Here's some data calculated from the times posted at the late-lamented www.track-challenge.com E39 M5, E46 M3 and 3.0i SMG Z4.

Not convinced that data is great. The M5 is quicker than that to 60 and 100mph.

From what I have seen and what I have experienced the M5 will be slightly quicker than the M3 to 100. Not much in it to worry about though.

0-62 in 5.4secs for the M5 vs 6.2secs for the S2000 would be about right I'd have thought?

the ever reliable wiki says 4.7secs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M5#...281998-2003.29 so maybe they are a bit out, but at least the stats above would be reasonably consistent.

Feel well and truly vindicated now after the lofty MB's post.

Could tell that that the wife of my adversary was REALLY unhappy too. Good job Mr Q wasn't with me as he would have been REALLY unhappy too.

So he wasn't trying but I derived so much pleasure from the fact that the he had to brake so much earlier than I did for roundabouts etc. That Cayenne is a hell of a lot of mass to stop!

lets clear this up with some stats

using http://www.fastestlaps.com/car459a8badeaedc.html and
www.letstorquebhp.com

E39 M5 395bhp
Power to Weight ratio 219.79 hp/tonne
letstorquebhp 231.45
1/4 in 13.1 @ 110

Cayenne Turbo 444bhp
Power to Weight ratio 188.59 hp/tonne
letstorquebhp 203

Cayenne Turbo 08 Model 493 bhp
Power to Weight ratio 209.55 hp/tonne
letstorquebhp 223
1/4 in 13.95/14.1 @ 106/105 (the newer cqar is slower!)

S2000
14.04 98.96

therefore the S is by far the quickest in a drag

throw in a bend and much more modest machinery than an S would embarrass the big Porka but then you could argue a clio 182 stuck to your S would say the same thing

i still think they're shit mind
