I've just had and got rid of an JDM Evo 9 GSR which I bought in December. Some people may remeber I was looking to get rid of the S a few months back. An Evo wasn't really one of the cars I was considering and but this came along at such a good price I couldn't pass it up (plus I've always liked Evos so I thought I give it a shot). Compare this to a tank lasting 2 weeks of 'normal' driving in the S. If I drove the Evo like the S it would go through a tank in about 4 days.
- Overall: The Evo is a great car. Mine was an 05 with 8000kms. It felt a quality car and was an amazing piece of driving technology. However, if you're not thrashing it it's the most boring car in the world to drive. Driving round in traffic and round town it's horrible. When driving slowly it seems like you have almost no power. It's kind of all-or-nothing. Given that I used it as a daily drive (which meant half my time in traffic) plus the horrendous fuel bill meant it just couldn't compete with the S. The S is just much more fun drive all the time. Plus it feels like you're driving it rather than the computers. You don't really get much feel in the Evo; it's rather like driving a mondeo that turns into a cruise missile when you floor it.

0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds; 0-100 mph in 6.3 seconds; 0-200 mph in 28.0 seconds
Yamaha R6 (100-ish rwhp):
0-60 mph in 3.33 seconds; 0-100 mph in 6.8 seconds. 160 mph top speed.
GSXR 1000 (150-ish rwhp):
0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds; 0-100 mph in 5.5 seconds. 180 mph top speed.

I will not contest that a bike's relatively high power to weight ratio will mean that most cars do not stand a chance off the line!! Around a twisty B road, i would say that a decent driver in an Evo could keep up with *most* riders on a 600cc bike (inherent dangers of riding a bike like a twat on B roads makes most people slower!) - on a track, the mass of the car would mean that it would be left for dead everywhere!

IIRC MCN tested it at 6.2s
The motorbike / car arguement always amazes me.
A good driver on twisty back roads 'should' be able to keep up with a bike, but when the road opens up the bike will be off.
Motorways are fun as well for top speed, the bike will not shift out of the way when I try and overtake
But Mark, how much for the hard top when you go for the Evo
If the price is right and the depreciation has been done then get the Evo.
When the sun is shining the S2000 should get a good price.

My mate owned an EVO8 for about 7 months. In that time it was his only car and he covered 10K miles. It cost him thousands in servicing and ate all four tyres twice. It was quick but sounded like a wet Tuesday afternoon and he got bored with it. Great cars for a short time IMO. Go for it, you only live once.

99% of car drivers have absolutely no idea how quick bikes are. A stock R6 will make mincemeat out of the average performance car.
Correct me if i'm wrong but a JDM evo is classed as an import and a car imported by colt cars is an official uk version (FQ variants) thus cheaper slightly to insure.
I had an evo viii for a year and to me the handling was a tiny bit similar to the s. It had a very similar direct steering feel but much more so, a more planted rear and better feedback. The seats were far better in the evo. I did like the feeling of the gAYC shuffling the power round whilst in corners but it got boring after a while, I would have much prefered a RS or GT if I had'nt got an s2000.
Surely its not the gizmos that make it handle like it does. A GT or an RS doesnt have gAYC and yet they still handle like on rails. IMO its better without gAYC because it feels more natural.
