Mickey, I think you have to try an Exige.

Takes me no time to get in, or out, and please don't mention reliability! That is long gone.

I just drive mine from Poole (England), to Spa F1 track in Belgium, where I punished it for 2 solid days. I then drove it to the Nurburgring, and give it further punishment on the F1 track and the Nordshliefe. All that got past me on the GP track was an F430.

It then drive me all the way home, without skipping a beat.

It also did that last year too (minus the Ring)

Plus 6 other UK track days

It's the most reliable car i've owned, and am still on the original discs and pads. The beauty of light weight...

It's not noisy above 80, and the gearshift while not as good as the S, is rifle bolt.

Terrible electronics?

In performance and reliability terms, I personally believe it's an upgrade. It's much faster than the S and doens't have some of the reliability issues on the S.

This is coming from a true S2000 enthusiast, minus the blinkers!

The Honda does the all rounder bit much better, and is a superb all round car so i'm not nocking it in any way - just making a comparison.

Well, lose the back seats and Exige S it up a bit.

Should piss all over that GT3 thing with its engine up its arse...

I think the back seats are going for the hot version Nick!

Sounds like the chassis is setup for more poke, just hope they go silly with it

What, like chopping it out a bit differently & installing a Lexus V8/V10?

Nah, they won't do that...yet.

Nice write up on the Evora. The only bit that struck me as odd was the "upgrade from S2000 to Elise/Exige". Very odd! Lets see.... takes 5 minutes to climb into it; well nigh impossible to get in with the top up; rides like its hell bent on damaging my bottom three vertebrae; highly unreliable (all the Lotus bits, not the Toyota bits); incredibly noisy; incredibly expensive; notchy shifter; terrible electronics; costs a ton of money just to get simple work done on it. Hmmmmm, how could the Elise be an upgrade from an S2000? I don't get it!
I can't comment on the Exige but given so much is shared with the Elise:

takes 5 minutes to climb into it

no - 5 seconds more like and that is with a suit on

well nigh impossible to get in with the top up

see above

rides like its hell bent on damaging my bottom three vertebrae

hmm, stiffly sprung suspension on a sports car, it'll never work y'know

highly unreliable (all the Lotus bits, not the Toyota bits)

my elise has been more reliable than the 3 S's we had between Jo and I, and that is saying something as they were fine cars

[I] incredibly noisy[/]

True - but soundproofing adds weight unless anti-noise is used (and Lotus are working on this

incredibly expensive

Can't comment on wallets

notchy shifter

True compared to the S's

terrible electronics

How so? - mine have been fine

costs a ton of money just to get simple work done on it

Running costs I would say are cheaper, my insurance is far less, like 40% less, the fuel efficiency is higher in the Elise, brakes cost the same

Hmmmmm, how could the Elise be an upgrade from an S2000? I don't get it!

Depnds on perspective, oh so often it has been stated that there is nothing in the same mould as the S, therefore nothing is really an upgrade, but if you are going more sporting then the Loti are faster, grip better, give more feedback through the steering wheel, handle better.

If you want a bit more touring comfort, more boot space, an auto roof etc then the Lotis fail on that

No just weight saving. I think one of the current options does away with them

Tried an Elise normally aspirated, as well as an SC before buying the S2000. But couldn't afford the Exige, so didn't try it. Perhaps its better. I'm afraid the Elise didn't "stir my soul" as did the S2000. I'm thinking that a bit of planning could make me get in and out of the Elise, but I just cannot imagine it being a daily driver - I daily drive the S2000, and if I could find a way to live in it, I would!

Agree on the daily drive, I would get a bit frustrated with the Lotus if I had a busy route to work.

The Elise SC is a great creation though! Close to Exige performance, but the roof comes off and you can see out the back
