I think he'd have been worse off TBH. Those new options gave him the grip to overtake nicely.

The two safety cars were borderline perfect for Vettel.

+3.

I wonder what Vettel could have done had he not been allowed to change his car to suit the race and his starting position, whereas the other 23 drivers all had to start on the same setup as qualifying - i.e. a compromise.

In fact, I wonder if Vettel hadn't got the penalty, whether he would have finished further down. He wouldn't have had the straight line speed advantage (he was 23rd in the speed traps on Saturday), and without being on soft tyres at the end probably wouldn't have been faster than Alonso, Raikonnen or Button, and would have ended up 4th.

Thems the rules, but it does seem a bit unfair than a driver gets a penalty and then is allowed to change the setup.

^^^^ I completely agree in that Vettel was given the best hand in that he could change his set up and the race went almost as well as it could have gone for him.

About the hters gon' hate picture... It is supposed to be like a 'pimp' walk or whatever. It was supposed to mean that there are always going to be haters and to keep going on no matter what you do or look like.

He could always have qualified in that setup and worse case have started 16th, still better than from the pit lane. Problem is you're best result would likely be 4th or 5th come race day if you're lucky enough to not be involved in incidents. And Vettel was very lucky it was just a new nose cone he was needing from the antics that took place in this race. The normal RB strategy of qualify first, storm off and manage pace is still best, it just heavily relies on being fastest car, which it normally is. Vettel being on top form, which he normally is. And no operational errors, and given how RB recovered this weekend vs how Mclaren keep throwing points away you have to say the team deserve their championships.

Wonder if Massa has been asked to punt Vettel off at the next race yet?
