Gutted! DiResta has been disqualified from quali and will have to start at the back! He was 1.5kg under the min weight.

Anyone thinking of buying Pirelli tyres in future?

Absolutely ridiculous.
F1 Tyres are surely the only item in any sport anywhere engineered to be not as good as they could be. This is the result.

Yes, Webber did well to come back from a poor start etc, etc.
But where would Hamilton and Massa have been in the end without tyre failures?

As you know, hardly the fault of Pirelli. They could develop a tyre that'd last the whole race no problem.

And nothing on an F1 car is of use in a road car.

I was screaming at the TV for Webbo to win! Bit gutted that he didn't, but Nico deserved the Win

Yes, but the tyres are meant to degrade, not explode into pieces. None of the drivers that suffered tyre failure had any big drop off in performance beforehand, so this is not the same thing as the drivers having to tip toe round to avoid tyre wear as many have complained about. All the previous failures Pirelli have put down to cuts or debris, and perhaps these will to, but then you have to ask the question after today if there's something about the construction that makes them a lot more susceptible to cuts or debris than they should be? And that is the fault of Pirelli, not because of what they're asked to do to spice up the racing.

The whole thing brings back memories of that farcical Indianapolis event. I did wonder if they were going to abandon the race.

The key question for today is whether Mercedes pace was only going to be for qualifying and they'd go backwards in the race, and obviously the answer is no. So it's certainly looking good for Mercedes for the rest of the year. Lewis obviously would have won today.

And yes I was cheering on Webber at the end. Maybe one more lap.

Superb British crowd producing the loudest cheer of the day for Vettel's retirement

I also enjoyed Vettel's comedy trip over his front wing.

Looks like Silverstone have a shared contract with Bucks CC for maintaining the roads and circuit...

Yeah Mercedes have done a great job and I think they could become real contenders, we need a few more dnf' from golden balls too, I can't actually remember the last time Vettel had any bad luck.

Great race today, obviously the tyres had a huge impact on the race, I think Hamilton would have romped it without his blow out, and like Ron I was cheering for Webber to win it, but I quite like Nico too so not a bad result. Alonso pulled it out the bag again ... impressive guy him ... someone I disliked as much as Vettel a few years ago, but he has shown some real mettle and character the last two seasons. Great race, Pirelli need to be allowed to test their tyres, simple!
