The Formula 1 Thread - 2014
The problem is how outspoken they are. The BBC looked to have for a while given up on letting users comment on the stories. This last race they have allowed it again and it's the usual "they don't want him to win!" "button demolished him" "nico is a whinger!" drivel rather than any reasoned discussion of the sport
The completely low intellect of the people who think there is a conspiracy knows no bounds
Forget that the team is based in the UK with nearly all of it's staff British.
Let's look at Mercedes.
Here we have a German company that only sells cars in Germany....what....they are a massive multinational with markets across the globe? So they sell more cars outside of Germany than they do in Germany?! Next you'll be saying that they have gone public and trade their shares on stock markets around the world....THEY DO?!?! So this isn't the 1950s then is it?
Mercedes don't give a stuff what nationality the driver that wins is, just that they do win.
Infact, it's probably more financially beneficial to them that Hamilton win the WDC such is his popularity in the states.

Exactly what I think :-o
What I couldn't understand during the race was the need for team orders. It's pretty obvious that Merc are going to win the constructors by a mile and finish 1-2 in the drivers so it didn't make sense to me.
Interesting article on the Beeb that explains the team's stance on the issue.

I wonder if this now means that data won't be shared across the garage and that we'll see a proper fight to the end?

The problem with this whole scenario was that Nico wasn't notably quicker than Lewis....he wasn't even within DRS range for much of this period. I am no great fan of Lewis's, but in this instance he played it absolutely right - if Nico want's to overtake me, he can, but I am not going to slow down so that he can catch me up!
I just don't think that the fans have taken to Rosberg. The Germans don't see him as one of them, in fact viewing figures on RTL are down 30%, but some of that must also be attributable to Vettel.
He's been very lucky today in that he collided with his team mate. If it had been another team then there would have been an appeal.
The Beeb were also reporting that the stewards have been instructed to be more lenient on this kind of incidents, if it had been earlier in the season then I would have expected some kind of penalty given what we've seen thus far.
Hamilton told reporters that the German, whose car's front wing clipped Hamilton's rear tyre in a failed attempt to overtake, had done it on purpose.
"We just had a meeting about it and he basically said he did it on purpose. He said he did it on purpose," repeated the Briton. "He said he could have avoided it. He said ‘I did it to prove a point’.
"He basically said 'I did it to prove a point'. And you don’t have to just rely on me, go and ask (Mercedes team bosses) Toto (Wolff) and Paddy (Lowe) who are not happy with him as well," said Hamilton.
"I was gobsmacked when I was listening to the meeting. You need to ask him what point he was trying to make."

If that is the case then it will be very interesting to see if Merc impose any kind of punishment/sanctions on the driver.
One thing that is becoming more obvious is that Rosberg is not up there with the best when it comes to wheel to wheel racing.
