oh dear, it's descended into a Hamilton bashing thread...

I suspect Mercedes will drop Hamilton for a race so Rosberg can't crash into him again (that is what happened right?) giving their homegrown (ish) talent a free run at the championship.

So long as he is more than 14 points clear at the end of the year, even if Hammy wins the double ganger it'll be Rosberg's title and only a dopey race would take it away from him.

I did quite like the fighting talk from Toto and Nikki though... let's see if they actually do anything...

It seems (rightly I think) that the FIA are not interested.

I'd like to see the minutes of that meeting

The notion that Rosberg calculated that he would come off best out of the contact is laughable. It could just have easily led to a retirement or low position for Rosberg and a win for Hamilton. It's surely obvious to anyone that Rosberg has had enough of hearing that Hamilton is a better 'racer' than him, is sick of the hype about it and has decided to give at least as good as he gets.

I'm not suggesting he did it on purpose, but it was his error that ultimately led to the retirement of another driver...

Even that's debatable but in any case......happens all the time in racing.

Actually I am of the same opinion, he simply wanted to 'bump' hamilton to let him know he wasn't giving up on that corner, even though he was beat, as I stated he is becoming frustrated with Hamilton and his ability (regardless of opinion of him and his personality his racing ability cannot be denied) on the track. It all adds to the spice, I think on reflection Merc will do nothing but a slapped wrist, and it will be business as usual at Monza ... should be great

Edit, and it really was not a driver error, he intended to hit Hamiltons car, he didn't expect the carnage that followed. IMO.

My theory is that the contact might not have been on purpose, but saying it was on purpose serves as a weapon in the mind game war. Hamilton might think twice before being as aggressive as he as been before (when he got away with it) if he thinks Rosberg is willing to risk the collision.

I'm sure I remember hearing Brundle saying something similar about Senna - if you conceded up to him once in a battle he knew he could scare you off the track again in the future.

If Nico had taken Fernando say out instead of Hamilton would there be any discussion like this going on?

I'm not sure, but one thing is for sure and that is that the Ferrari lawyers would be hard on the case of the steward / FIA and I'm fairly positive that Rosberg would have been penalised.

Merc are hardly going to campaign for sanctions against their own driver.

It's not complicated, is it? Hamilton is an aggressive driver/overtaker - good for him. This will pay off nine times out of ten but not necessarily when he tries it with someone who is genuinely competing with him. It's just the price to pay for adopting that style. How often do you see Button in a prang/controversy? Different style = different (but predictable) consequences.

Yeah but it's not like Hamilton had the corner to lose, there was no way Rosberg could have taken that postion, his front wing hit Hamiltons rear wheel therefore he was near a full car behind, now if he were alongside you could argue the merit of such a tactic.

It was akin to shakin' your fist at someone!
