What is going on with Alonso, why the time off from F1, there has to be more to it than 'concusion' .. we have seen many many drivers hit walls during qauli and be ready to race the next day, and many hit walls during races and are perfectly fine the following week ... what gives?

It's the nature of the collision. If any part of the crash structure has hit it would have been a shower of carbon and he'd have climbed out shaking his head at a silly accident.

Instead the wheels hit, and not in a way that snapped the suspension arms, instead the entire force went through the car.

A sudden deceleration like that, and remember even though 100mph is slow in F1 terms it's still a lot of energy is plenty enough to cause a diffuse axonal injury even without a knock to the head. The brain wants to carry on moving inside the skull.

He's probably absolutely fine. But a repeat collision in a short space of time can have complications. Given the slim chance of scoring points it's just not worth the risk.

He was knocked out for a few seconds. Obviously they're going to treat that a lot more seriously.

I am a little surprised about how the media and people have reacted to Alonso's crash. Just because the track wasn't covered in carbon fibre, doesn't mean it wasn't a bit impact. I think McLaren are doing the right thing here by benching him for one race. It's not worth the risk, this is a blokes life we are talking about at the end of the day.

I doubt either McLaren will do very well on the 15th so why risk it.

I've always thought that the modern day F1 will always play favorites to drivers over anything else. Their #1 goal is the health and safety of their drivers regardless of who is in the car. But what is media without the drama?

Alonso is fine, playing the long game, and nothing is particulary exciting when you look at the facts.

From a media point of view that is a no hoper so in comes the sensationaliser.

More rumors appearing in the medias regarding Alonso's crash.
Spanish newspaper El Pais says Alonso woke up after his crash thinking it was 1995 and that he was a gocart racer..
