I do feel a bit sorry for Hamilton, but he is the architect of this mistake.
He constantly whinges at the team when they do/don't bring him in so the team are always on a knife edge with which way to go.
When the team gives him instructions on the track, he ignores them so so when they told him to pit he should have said no, unless he though his tyres were rubbish.
So yeas a bit of a f uck up from the Merc team, but Hamilton isn't innocent in it.

The only reason why Hamilton was an architect of this was by being miles ahead of his team mate.

Hamilton asks, “Are you sure it’s the best thing to stay out?”
Bonnington replies: “Nope, we will be boxing the end of the lap, box the end of the lap. Stay positive, stay positive. We are going to go one and a half turns (on front wing) for the option tyre unless you tell us different.”
Then suddenly the order is changed. “We are now staying out, staying out, staying out.!”
Hamilton relies: “Guys that’s not good, these tyres have lost all their temperature. Everyone’s going to be on options now.”
This seems to sway the decision on the pit wall: “OK, copy, copy, box, box!” says Bonnington. “Cancel the brake magic (name of a switch on the steering wheel). Caution on pit entry, RS modes. Cancel RS.”
Hamilton exits the pits behind Rosberg and Vettel and Hamilton comes over the radio, “What’s happened guys, what’s happened?”
Bonnington sounds hesitant: “OK Lewis so… w..we got caught behind… we are having a look now, we are reviewing the video.”
“OK we have lost the marshalling system, so we may need to do something to override DRS,” says Bonnington.
“I’ve lost this race, haven’t I?” asks a dejected Hamilton.
“Not if they lose all their tyre temp,” says Bonnington. They are on the prime tyre. You have got a very good options on the car at the moment.”

I agree, I was falling asleep near the end of the race.
It's been so disappointing following the Mclaren Honda team this year.

Competent boring job by Mercedes today. As would have been at Monaco but for their pit management cock up
I only carried on watching thinking that huge flat spotting by Hamilton shortly after he pitted might have some later consequences. But as it was the right front and the circuit was clockwise maybe he got lucky and the tyre wasn't stressed too much.
