that's quite impressive for what it does Mr P. My vectra diesel did avg of about 46mpg in my 17 months of commuting. i piled a lot of miles on it and didn't drive very slowly . i guess the longevity is a big issue with high mileage, that vec is pretty dusted now with about 90k on the clock,. old chugger engine and the shocks are shot and suspension knocking etc. it is 6.5 years old now.
essentially the running costs are fuel and insurance so far pretty much
.. the lack of expensive servicing is important. a Focus Tit

On that basis. I would save around £1k a year on fuel. Maybe also £1k a year on servicing costs.
Would I be right in thinking the car was ~ £20k?
So that would be 8 years to get my money back assuming a PXed my ATR/ITR. Still not worth it for me

Like Karen's Civ; gave eleven large for it eleven years ago, it still drives like new and it makes one smile as it rattles & bounces round the corners in its light, flimsy manner.
Any modern replacement would cost at least 24 large and not be anywhere near as daft.
Since there is nothing wrong with the old one, building a new one would be an ecological as well as a financial disaster.
