Lockdown lowdown
a mate lives in Montreal with a Tesla.. his take
It's bloody expensive but performance wise (in a straight line) batters an equiv price petrol. the build quality is ok in the important bits, terrible in the less so.
you always leave the house with a full tank. it can pre warm up in winter (gets proper cold there) and pre cool
it's a pain in the arse for the long haul to his folks in law (900 miles ffs) but otherwise he rarely charges it away from home and on that schlep a half hour break is needed
the range in winter is severly reduced but we wouldnt get that

I've looked a couple of hybrid to replace her Seat but it is always a no as they are all automatic and she is not prepared to even try one. I'd get a good deal from my old employer but ist looks like we'll be Leon transported for a while. If I was really brave I'd just do a deal and sort the consequences later, but not that brave, rather attached to all my extremities.
What's the issue with autos - as a tool to do a job i just can't see the argument. Sure an S2000 with one would be a shooting offence but if it's just 'transport' autos take all the slog out of it. My current 'beater' is a 20+ year old auto and it gets about its business in a sprightly manner and isn't a clunker - modern stuff is much better than that.
@Nottm_S2 900 miles to his folks he's got to take one or two pee breaks and maybe food so it all depends where his folks live, civilised or tundra.
We drive here on a much smaller scale but his charging strategy would be mine too. Except my folks in Derbyshire snuffed it some while back, they would have been right on the limit of the e-Honda from here. The grands are also just within range of an e-Honda but very marginal. Like all such data the sales blurb will be slightly optimistic of course ... Being caught short in a busy urban area far from home is a bad dream. Some hybrid would be hogging the charger and taking a casual meal in the nearby Frank & Benny's. Until they solve the charging infrastructure issues I may just stick with the S.

whether it's big enough is a matter tbd.. 2 adults, 1 kid, 1 mutt and the kitchen sink Nina normally carts around.. plus bikes.
will it take a seasucker 3 mount on the roof? or get roof bars or a tow bar?

Wife? Reasoning? Does not compute. But ... keep breathing? Yup. Whatever car you pull that stunt in good luck but I can tell you what NOT to use. The Smart W451 auto and a Fiat Ducato 'comfortmatic'. The latter is not likely however I mention it for scale and comparison as it is an if anything even longer gear change delay than the former.
The thing is, SWMBO here is no petrolhead gear change is a chore she now defends the Smart auto loyally.
But won't drive the moho. Period. Got to love 'em eh
