Well, I sold the M5 last night, it went to a guy who already has an M3 and an M3 CSL so he knows what he's in for and he can pick up the warranty from BMW for about £1k pa, the best £1k he'll ever spend! He wanted a motorway cruiser so he made a good, if expensive, choice; a 535d would have been the sensible choice but hey, he's happy so that's the most important thing! I'm not as now have to wait for my X5 40d M Sport - not my choice but I'll have to wait a couple of years before I'm in the market for something exciting again - maybe a 1M as by that time they'll cost about 50p.

A hypothetical question though - if one were to buy a Ferrari, how much would one need to set aside per year for 'self insurance'? I've heard £6k mentioned... not that I'm thinking about buying one anytime soon but a Ferrari is on my bucket list.

Depends what model, but 6k can get eaten very easily especially if there's no warranty...
