any amount of grip can be overcome if there is enough power under the bonnet
^^ What he said - with 300-odd bhp I have to really push the scooby to get it spinning but with 400 or 500bhp it would be a lot easier!
IMHO the test of wet/dry grip is to push hard into a corner to seek understeer - this always comes earlier in the wet IMHO in any car.
Fair point re: my mate - he's not the best of drivers but even still the elise has proven a handful in the wet nearly every time he's taken it out and yet he can really fly when he'd driving it on a dry summers day.

yes I realise that Gad, just pointing out how much grip it has; we did get donuts in the end
Weird about your mate SB - on the airfield it was really flying
Mind you I'd still drive like a wuss in bad conditions on the road

rather than it being evidence of exceptional grip
correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Elise is exactly over-tyred
I'd have thought suspension set up would be a factor in the high speed corner, but not in the donut
hence my diagnosis of power shortfall over prodigous grip
that's all
Not sure what you mean by overtyred, but the S2 has had the front tyres sorted out since the last one apparantly !! (S1 was a victim of marketing vs technical apparantly).
The Elise has a lot of grip and sticks to the road; whether that's down to its suspension setup, tyres, weight, power or a combination of all of them is not really relevant unless you want to take the tyre off and measure that alone, which is pretty pointless.
All grip can be overcome, obviously, but given that its power to weight ratio is very similar to the Caterham, it had more "grip" on the day.

surprisingly, plenty of people don't appreciate that point, and attribute grip to tyres rather than lack of power
but in any event I was only talking about donuts

Im shocked, but mine grips and accelarates pretty much the same wet or dry in the right circumstance. This AYC thing really works.

So how many of us own Evo's now?
Seems to be a few...
Maybe we should start a gallery
