New Corsa has same performance figures as S2K
[QUOTE=alex.stanley,Jun 22 2006, 09:51 PM] I can't say I'm particularly worried about what other cars are doing.
I own an S2000 because I like the car, not because I try to compete with people off the lights.

The sad part is 350bhp in the wrong hands just makes for a faster fool.
Having been in the S with much more competent drivers than I am, there's so much more for me to find in the S.
Easy to go get more power under my arse but I'll be just as incapable of getting the best from that as I am currently in the S. Yeah I'll go quicker of the lights Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah. Yeah, yeah but it

The best thing about the S is that it can shame much more expensive machinery. On track I've passed many more Nobles and 911's than have passed me. Anyone that say's it doesn't have soul is talking bollocks frankly. The Boxster is a brilliant car but it doesn't have soul. It's a competent, accurate machine that is not exciting to drive. The S feels alive.
There are many more faster, better handling, better braking, more comfortable cars, but in the class, as a drivers reliable daily driver, IMHO nothing can touch it. Give me more money, it'll be destroyed, but for the money, I'd choose it again.

BB, just enjoy your car for what it is. If someone in a hot hatch (or whatever) beats you in a race and it bothers you, all I can say is don't race (generally a pretty stupid thing to do on most public roads). If you feel that they would be "Putting one over on you" by beating you, then maybe its not about cars but some other hang up you may have. This is not meant as a dig.
I'm no expert on the S as I'm still looking to buy one but how can you compare a 200 bhp + fwd hatchback to a 240bhp rwd convertible???
I've just sold a 230 bhp fwd hatchback and believe me there's absolutely no comparison... That amount of power going to the front wheels imo is too much especially when the road conditions are less than perfect.

True,
But in the same way 18" wheels make one a better man than one with 17" wheels, these things are important!
There is always the Darwin argument - B segment cars are too tall and narrow for high performance, which is why so many fall over.
Since they are so fecund, something has to be there to limit chav numbers!
