The Evora is very different to the Exige in terms of ownership prospects, so you can't say that's a natural progression. An Evora is a Cayaman type GT car and not something most would consider as a track car alternative to the Exige. Exige is a stripped out track toy. In fact, I think the Evora has a track warranty clause like the GTR, from memory.

Plus, given the amount of money the Exige owners (good and bad ) spend on modifying their cars (mostly unsucessfully!) Lotus clearly see there is a market for more power.
Of course all Exige owners aren't bad drivers, but the idea of a 6 in an exige just smacks of anti-Lotus and is something City Boys would buy to be Racing Drivers....I just wish they'd keep it simple and keep the leightweight four.

I know cash is King and sales speak volumes, that's what any company wants to do. Still seems like a sell out to me.

I see it as progress I think, Ron.

The only possible improved 4 they could have used imo is a K20, so the NA would be 220 and the SC about 280 or so, plus I think it's a touch lighter. But like I say, Honda is unlikely to go for the association with Lotus on their top engine. So the V6 at 40kg more is a great idea You can see it from their side: Exige is a really strong seller for them, current enigne is banned, already have license to use the V6, ok lets put a V6 in there and satisfy the demand for more poke. I don't agree with the city boy thing though, it's never been a city boy car. What will be interesting is the final weight. The car will have to grow a bit (although some disagree) to take the engine (it does fit as it is though) as it will need a wider track, as seen in the spy shots. But I wonder if they will go for a sub 1000kg target and really go to town on weight saving elsewhere. Like I say, this is probably only 40kg - 60 kg we are talking by the time it's fitted, and I think it's well within Lotus' skill base to shave that elsewhere.

The only thing I can possibly think that would take me from a semi on to a full rager, is if it has a sequential box. You would see me licking the window of the local Lotus dealer

Echo, good plan. Also some cheap S2 Exiges around at that point!

Lee, the V6 in the Exige is almost 100% happening, but can't wait to see what it looks like, and what the spec is. I think the Evora force is strong in you
Oh yes!

To be fair I could go out and buy a new Evora S tomorrow, but being a tight northern git I think I'll wait until next year and then go for it.

Def a good idea. The prices drop quick, and I think I still prefer the NA one for the pennies. 30k for one next year sounds good! There is a hotter version coming quite soon too, so that always nudges prices down.

No chance of a K20A as Honda doesn't make them anymore (due to the aforementioned Euro legislation).

I think anyone who is that serious about weight and track performance wouldn't be looking at the Exige these days, there's so many other faster, cheaper options out there.

I personally quite like the idea of a V6 in an Exige. An extra 40kg, WGAF? It's still going to be one of the best 'compromise' cars out there.

For me though, it's still got to be an S1 with a NA Honda in the back

A Lotus is a properly-engineered car, not some truck-like VAG shi t designed to go from 7.5 to 44 Tonnes GVW: I should imagine it would not only require bigger cooling, but also suspension & chassis upgrades to take the extra weight. Hence a much larger increase than the dry mass of the engine. This is likely to be a major redesign.

It IS worth stating that a good V6 is often little heavier than a S4, (Honda's aged but excellent SOHC J35/37 a case in point) since it's less prone to shaking itself to pieces.

I might well build one of those at some point. I'd hope for a weight of <800kg which means i'd need to have at least 275bhp out of it.

Surely achievable.

And I have seen engineless series ones going for well under £5k too.

There were 2 S1 Exiges at Spa this year. Both Honda'd and one was SC I think.

Pretty rapid.
