I would have gone to court...and then claimed compensation.

Fools.

So are we saying that we expect the rozzers to verify the details of every clocked speeder before sending a NIP on the basis that it "might" be a cloned plate.....?

The lady I spoke to was a bit vague about how legible the plate was. She did try an "alternative reading" but that didn't come back as a black s2k either.

I think its all part of the current authorities' policy of getting the public to do all their work for them. Like I said to the VAT man the other day on the subject of on-line filing, "not only do you get the general public to collect your taxes for you, now you even get us to process the paperwork!". I hope he had a sense of humour...
Don't get me started...

A R n' R client of mine used to have an expression "I don't mind you f ucking me over, but you have to kiss me first!"

He used to offend banks, authorities, etc with it. It was bloody brilliant!

There should certainly be a check to see if the description of the car matches that which the plate is registered to. Then a human gets involved.

So, yes, frankly.

Imagine how many more NIPs they'd have to hand out to raise enough cash to pay for all the extra staff that would be required....

Had a follow-up letter yesterday...

Enquiries have been made and it has been established that an error occurred during the processing of the notice.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused and would ask you to ignore the fixed penalty.
So it seems to have gone away...

whole heartily, otherwise it's a case of guilty 'til proven innocent.

There are actually one or two cases where you are guilty until proven innocent. And almost all of them are driving offences.
