I was sat in the Porker showroom earlier.

In Porsche world, the Gayman looks to be the most attactive one for the money to me!

But it made me realise that i'm not ready to own a porker, certainly not a new one. I don't feel like should be owning one really. They are a bit posh for me Also maybe a bit clinical.

And the drive home in the Exige convinced me that still, not a lot beats it for excitement.

So I started thinking maybe I would choose the NSX over a Cayman. It has more character / soul.

Ah you misunderstood me / I didn't explain

If I had to choose between Boxter (edit - I meant Cayman) and NSX then it would prob be the NSX. At the start of this thread I was more the other way around. Having a sniff round it at the dealer and reading the reviews on here for the NSX have swayed my thinking. nowt wrong with the Cayman, I just wouldn't feel right owning one for some reason.

But neither could beat the Exige for excitement, and it's going nowhere! It is suiting my needs perfectly right now - and just makes me laugh when I drive it... Plus i'm about to do stuff to it

If I needed something more practical then one of the aforementioned would be the option.

You, Ian and Nick.

I must stay away from "man maths" though

Mildly amusing telephone conversation with sales rep, who, at 22, is too young to take me on a test drive. His manager will have to do it in his stead!

Maybe I should give Hatfield Porsche a call and arrange a Gayman S drive too?
Now there's a thought.

Due to the way cars grow with the generations, one could argue that Porsche has produced a cheapo, steel-bodied NSX copy from below.

It would be interesting to do a direct comparison.

That's pretty much my view.

It's not just that the NSX holds the engineering high ground; there's just something a bit bling and shiny and dare I say it, nouveau (or even parvenu) about the Porsches that I personally dislike.

There are those that have an Elise and an NSX as garage companions (kind of Silly Party and Sensible Party versions of the same thing) that makes a lot of sense.

An aldi R8 and NSX comparison would also be appropriate I guess.

Could be, although I'm not sure I dare be seen in an R8, the Gayman is bad enough

R8 doesn't light my fire much either (although I can't afford it) but a second hand 360 modena for 50k would!

Again, I think stuff like the R8 may be a bit too clinical?

Stuff which has soul and maybe a bit rough round the edges is where it's at.
