Alfa? The days of them (badly) building 'characterful' and entertaining cars are long gone.

Fiat? Really?!

So where are these inspirational Italian cars you allude to, but curiously fail to identify?
Well I'm driving a Fiat right now. It's about 7 m long and sleeps 4.
I'd never buy a golf forgetful as I am I probably wouldn't find it again in a car park.

That's a big reason why I am getting one.
It's nice and anonymous for parking anywhere (especially in London) and I won't have to worry about it, especially as it's not not even the "top model" with the advent of the "R".

I, and the OP already have an interesting car, the S2000, so there's no need for two of them.

Agreed LG. If I want to have fun then it's the S I'll take out. Hence I'm not too interested in the more powerful variants of my shortlist. As long as it's got enough horses to get me out of trouble I'll be happy.
Got a stack of test drives lined up for the weekend. There is an Alfa dealer next to the Audi one so might take a nose there too just for interest sake.

Exactly this.

The OP was clear about the type of car he was looking for advice on. This isn't (another!) 'worthy cars to replace an S2000 with' thread where the Golf and it's ilk would have no place.

I'm still struggling to think of an Italian car with could sensibly fill this brief.

Again who cares... If I were serious I would have recommended a Civic tourer... TARDIS impersonated and far more reliable than those German thingies.
