Premium hatchbacks

Currently enjoying a courtesy car, new Hyundai i10, manual. Cracking little big car.
Bog standard is quite high spec and the 1 litre engine nippy enough and will shortly road test on motorways to/from babysitting in Kent, close by Brands as it happens. Carwow gets new down from ~£10k to around £8k but actually one year old 2016 cars aren't much cheaper - if anything, not!
The other factor down here at the bottom of the food chain is the April 2017 road tax hike. It used to be only £30.
Hyundai currently have a scrappage scheme until end of the year. Probably instead of Carwow
they are good cars and clearly quick on a lap of whatever but for me it's a GT car, it's not a very involving drive from my perspective but then i hanker after a quick caterham or lotus rather than a GTR or something or an R8
horses for courses and all that
interesting thread on cutters where someone pulled their bottom end at 65k and it was proper ****ed.. they are not sturdy engines and whilst i theorise that could be lack of care (revs before warm, oil every 24m) it is a bit alarming despite mine being wrapped in cotton wool and sounding very very smooth
I should imagine that an engine of that quality and high performance does not like being used in a 'rep-mobile' manner. And a lot of owners will abuse it thus.
That used to be a problem with ALFA Romeo engines; they had over a gallon of oil in a small engine and by the time it was properly warmed (up to 30 miles) you were back home...

I think 90% of owners are ambivalent to mechanical sympathy Nick..
8.8l of oil but it does have an OT gauge. The issue is compounded in my, uninformed, opinion by a limited redline which disappears in a few short minutes, like the s2 no vtec cold thing noone should ever know about it really but it feels like that might be seen as a licence to give it beans
i have thought about oil analysis but i think we'll just trade it for something with air suspension to replace the missus agricultural cashcow (bad back)

Tax hike so predictable.
No chance of scrappage allowance PLUS other discounts - see my Ford experience.
Only problem is my tainted memory of a Hyundai Amica.
