Just to put this in perspective, you can 6 months are what some people serve for sexual abuse/rape. If only she'd have said she was an illegal immigrant, she'd have gotten away with it then. And she'd have gotten a free house too!

IMHO the fact that it was a speeding fine is incidental to this case.

She wasn't jailed for speeding, she was jailed for perverting the course of justice, everyone knows that's not something the courts take lightly. If she didn't know what she was getting into she shouldn't have done it, it appears she didn't even contact the American relative to get the story straight. Did she think they wouldn't check up on it?

Harsh, but she's obivously not the brightest penny in the fountain. They've probably done it to warn other people.

good link Richie

"Neil Hamilton, the disgraced former Tory MP, and his wife Christine escaped a penalty for doing 63mph in a 50mph limit in 2003 after claiming that they could not remember who had been at the wheel. The new device would have identified which of them was responsible."

jail the fvckers then!

can't they make speeding a civil offence or somert? this is getting out of hand.. i reckon if i beat the living sh1t out of someone on the street i'd get a shorter sentence than that. I'd claim i was an illegal immigrant cos i'm half scottish.. i'd take that free house

She wasn't jailed for speeding, she was jailed for telling fibs.

I think it would have been harsh to get jailed if she was on 3 points, but she was effectively trying to get out of a driving ban, so it seems fair - there would be uproar if she later killed someone when she would have been banned.

I never understand why the papers focus on the fact that she is 1. a woman 2. a mother.

Perjury and Perverting the course of justice are not small offences, and probably not the best standard for a mother to set to her children IMO

Perving is considered more serious than speeding or rape.

There are many MPs, etc done for perving, so it's not a big deal really. Especially since the CPS is undermined by bleeding hearts anyway.

It's now gonna cost the Govt.

It just makes the story a bit more exciting, mothers make better 'victims' than young single men.
Exactly. Would this thread exist if the defendant had been a young lad, or a foreigner?

It's part of this leftie 'all women are persecuted victims & all mothers are perfect' & 'all men are rapists' shit.

They are also making the point that 'the woman should be in the home looking after the kids' (& not in bird) mantra.

Say that she should be doing that & not out at work & the same lefties would burn you on a stake!

It's double-standard journo pathos relying on "universal truths", I'm afraid. Sells papers to the unwashed though.
