Default Speed Camera Question

Anyone know the specs on a small, 2-3ft high tripod style speed camera? It didn't flash.
Might have been got on one of the most frustrating journeys I've ever had. I'd been really careful all journey, but a road had closed forcing a huge detour. Then was overtaking a tractor. Don't know if I was even speeding but I need to know the range and aim on this type of thing. Going to be a tense couple of weeks.

IME if it doesn't flash it isn't turned on.

I'm in the same boat-busy traffic on a dc 50. roadwork signs (no roadworks) for 30mph were blocked by traffic in l-h lane. Saw it too late. It didn't flash.

In London they use these cameras to check for road tax violations.

yep, it's a mobile style camera. Hopefully it was for tax.

Honest and register your vehicle = dealt with for every minor error caught on camera !

Don't register = falls into too difficult tray requiring enquiries ..... which may not get done - allegedly

The only certified tripod style speed camera their is is a Mini GATSO. Normally there is a copper/rentacop standing right behind it. They look alot like the really old plate cameras, it's quite a big box and completely black, also there should have been a speed camera sign nearby if it was speed. It should flash but just keep under the speed limit for the next 14 days.

Chances are it's a tax one, those are considerably more common.

I'm just annoyed because I'd been steady most of the journey, but 30 miles of 40mph in an NSL later, and I'm getting frustrated.

There was a rentacop, hidden from view behind a hedge in a silver car with "Think speed" type logo on it, but it was only a glimpse.

I got caught the same way over 27mph over the limit as I had just passed a lorry and had several cars behind me doing the same, alas I was in front and got 5 points.

Okay, so it was almost certainly a mobile GATSO (about the same size as a small kitchen TV) - I'd just keep it under the limit for the next 2 weeks while you wait for your NIP. If you do get one, you may well be able to plead mitigation if you were actually in the process of passing the tractor or had only JUST passed it. The photo evidence will point that out.

They work fairly close up and require 2 marks to measure your speed visually. If you were over 100 yds away you will be fine.

If you do get a NIP make sure you request the photographic evidence. Also if you were changing lanes while the photo was being taken you may well be in a good position as well.

If it was one of those tripods with the small cameras (small CCTV size) on it there's a good chance it was just scanning license plates.

Don't sweat it, there's bugger all you can do about it and it wont affect your premiums too badly, the only issue would be if you already had 9 points. We all know how frustrating this system is.
