Fletch, could you upload your letter and the reply to the mp?

Might do a simple copy/paste and forward it to the same guy (assuming I agree with it).
I'll hunt it out over the weekend

My MP At the time was Ed Balls, who's now a big man in the cabinet

Bad habits start after you pass your test though. A better answer would be compulsory retests every 10 years, which would include motorway driving.
I wholeheartedly agree...........

............but realistically its never going to happen is it. Those with the power to change it are too fearful of the backlash. As far as I can see implementing further tests would be a win win. People have to pay for a retest = income. People getting retested means improved safety, even if only marginal as they must revisit the rules once in a while.

The reason it doesn't happen is the ministers are all too weak to stand up to critics and prefer the easy life.

Shows how much all this public safety crap really matters eh!

I used to agree with this but thinking about it I'm not so sure. We all know we do things wrong occasionally. Making people re-take their test won't filter out the numpties who go onto auto-pilot in the middle lane. They will be concentrating for that half hour of the test and will be desperately trying to do things correctly.

However I do think we should have to re-take the theory.

Edited to add- def should have something on/after the test about motorway driving. If nothing else it was feckin terrifying trying to get on a busy motorway for the first time and that was after having done a lot of my practice on the A3

An old guy in an AMG SLK demonstrated the proper method of undertaking today but if there were coppers about he most definitely would have been done because traffic was fairly busy. Traffic was moving between 70-80 and he was obviously too impatient so he floored it, went from lane 3 to lane 1, undertook several cars and then cut back into lane 3 again. Job done. I was about 8 car lengths behind with my windows open but I still heard the noise of the exhaust.

Lucky the TT didn't have to brake suddenly though.
My "last moment" is about one car length but the fact all three lanes in front of the TT were completely clear I can assure you that no brakes would have been required. Besides the S has great lane change ability.

must admit i tend to either sit beind the person in the middle lane with my indicator on - even been knon to honk the horn... if that does not work i either go to the overtaking lane - then dive back to the left lane to make sure they get the message ... or i cruze past the inside lane - look at them.. then indicate left as i pull in front of them so they can see im making my point !! i do a lot of motorway miles and im amazed by the morons that are allowed on the road...
