Waving....
Going to be in trouble for going OT but the thread title makes me think of this Stevie Smith poem.
Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.
Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.
Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.
I don't wave anymore. I prefer to give a thumbs up that it is more easily returned. Who wants to return the wave of a granny?

I had a wave type smile-nod off a shine red lotus the other day.
It was a sunny day, roof down, I'm just pulling out of the office carpark and he's just pulling in.
There was a mutual nod of understanding saying, 'Doesn’t it just rock to have a soft top in a day like today'.

you can't assume anything about the driver of another car
(well you can, but you would be silly to)
maybe the driver is a mechanic/borrowed the car/just suffered a bereavement/is listening to the radio/isn't a needy saddo
etc
lots of reasons why people don't wave

I say hello to people when I take my little lad for a walk and wave at fellow Quinny Buzz owners. We often compare foot muffs!

He pulled out behind us and was eager to get on so we moved over and indicated it was safe to go past which he did with a wave and a smile

I've been driving around my dad's WRX for a week or so and get waved at by all manner of Scoobies every journey.
Feels a bit rude not to wave back although I'll be as subtle as I can

I get waved at a lot when I am cruising slowly through Canal Street in Manchester in my A2.

I've not tested it out on Porsche drivers yet, although I'm not sure that 911 owners would deign to wave at a Cayman
Caterham drivers do, as i was lucky to be passenger in a mates R400 this weekend and we had a good 1.5hr blast round Derbyshire and we did see another who was quick to give my mate a wave! R400.. very rapid"
My step dad has a brand new Jag XF and got a wave off another one 6 months or so ago. He couldn't believe it and thought it was very strange. To him its just a company car that looks nice and chose it over all the Beemers he's had for years as a change.
This is doing me no favours but .............. a chav'd up mk2 clio 1.2 waved at me today, I ignored him and he then gave me 3 fingers
when we got to the M25
We used to wave when we had the Alfa, but that was mainly to get help as I'd broken down
