Dave,
Indeed...that is going to be the challenge. At some future point, I think Randy is going to have a unit with a built-in video LCD. I do know that he is planning on offering separate LCD video units...at some future date...but that doesn't help us in the short term.
I believe I am going to obtain a video capture device, that I can (hopefully) use with my laptop...then I can use it as my aiming device...as well as having it handy for downloading video off of the CF card...when it gets full.
The biggest challenge I foresee, is that you almost need to be sitting on the roadway, in order to be able to properly aim your camera. I know I ran into that problem Sunday, when I aimed my camera in the resort parking lot, and wound up only getting half of my lane plus lots of the roadside, in the frame
!!

Development Updates-
May 4th , 2006. There is a delay in one part that appears to be our long lead item. We have printed circuit boards, cases, sheetmetal. What we do not have is a membrane graphic keypad that sits on top of the PDR. This item should be here on Monday May15th. The positive news is that we can build up the PDRs with the exception of this item, and then add this right before boxing the unit up and shipping. So, it does look we can ship out starting on May15th.
I will get some pictures of a finished unit up (without the graphic overlay) next week.
It looks like these may become reality...sometime this month
!
Bryan...I hope yours makes it in time for your autocross...I'm looking forward to playing with mine...when it finally comes in

Jason,
I believe the price is going up...with the full production batch...mainly due to changes in design and materials.
Randy is going to wait for some feedback from the first batch of units, before he begins full production. Depending on what issues...if any...arise...there may be more changes coming...that could impact the future price.
I would predict around $400...possibly a bit more.
Coupled with the 'BulletCam', and various mounts, this is not an inexpensive system, but it should allow one to accumulate video footage (safely) from vantage points not easily attained with camcorders.

Well...by now...this comes as no surprise

Bryan....it looks like you won't have yours in time for your autocross
...sorry dude!
UPDATE
May 16th , 2006. There is a problem with the LCD we had specified and we are scrambling to get stock of the correct part. We have located some and they are being shipped to us. The membrane overlays are also slightly delayed and we should have them in hand by May 19th. Our intent is to finish assembling units with the overlays and LCDs and ship out as soon as possible, this should be around May 23rd or May 24th. Preorders for the first beta production run are now closed for further orders. We will only be taking orders for the next production run of 1000 units, which we anticipate a July delivery.
I still believe that this will be a great unit...especially once Randy gets some feedback, from the first 200 units to make it out. One very nice asset is that it is field updateable...via the internet, or a CF update card.
Keep your fingers crossed for us early adopting 'guinea pigs'!

Yeah, I talked to Randy last week and figured I wouldn't have it for the autocross this weekend. No big deal. I've been following the development of this guy for at least a year now, so I'm not in any hurry.
Hopefully, this will be the final update...and future posts will be addressing the function of the units.

We have determined that there was another minor issue on the electronics where the microprocessor, on some boards, under some conditions, would not "boot up" or reset when it was supposed to. A fix was investigated and is now being implemented on the board. This fix should be completed by Monday, May 29th, and we should be able to ship out units starting on Tuesday May 30th. Apologies for the delays. This was a critical issue, as we rely on the reset function in order to boot up on a Compact Flash card and update the firmware.
