Default Driving without a rear view mirror...

I had my windshield replaced last month thanks to a rock chip. This past weekend in Wilmington I noticed 2 large cracks and immediately thought it was due to our +100 speeds, however no rock chip in sight. Luckily Harmon auto-glass has a life-time warranty and the cracks were stress related. Bad news, he broke my rear view mirror so they have to order me a new one. This guy was very careless and did not even take the time to tape up the edges of the fender. Now I have a tiny chip thanks to his razor. He also scraped alot of the paint underneath the molding with the razor....It's not noticable, however I'm sure it's going to rust when water gets between the molding and the windshield.

Should I call the them and voice my displeasure?

I ran around for about a week and a half without a rear view mirror. Not a big deal when you're top-down 99.999% of the time and take the extra care to look around.

I'd give them a call and let them know about the chip and the paint. I watched the installer when he replaced my windsheild and he did an excellent job. I ended up with one new tiny scratch on one of the a-pillar trim pieces, but nothing that bothers me in the least.

Yes, most definately, after my oil occurance i tend to raise hell at anything. I mean heck i did full service gas one day, and yelled at the gas guy for getting a tiny bit of gas on the side of my car. I would let them know how you feel.

Funs,

If you really believe these scrapes are going to rust, I most definitely would express that to the glass replacement company. And if you don't get a satisfactory response then put it in writing to the owner or manager. Certified delivery would be wise, only if you have to take it that far. One caution, going into it with probably isn't going to get things off to a good start. Good luck

On a separate note. I noticed in the pics of your "S" that you have removed the tape on the A pillar and window frame. I like the looks better. Did you do this yourself? If so was it difficult and what's the down side?. Does it peel away paint or anything? Does it make for much less protection for bugs and other flying objects? I thought I would ask you about this before searching the board to see if you have first hand experience. Thanks for any input.

Jay

P.S. watching you guy's volley back and forth

I spoke to the District Manager earlier who expressed his sincerest apologies. He was happy I brought this incident to his attention and told me he would be speaking to the store manager in my area. He said they would remedy the problem and do whatever it takes to make me happy. Maybe I'll ask for unlimited supply of windshields everytime I get a rock chip

Jay,

The tape removal was not difficult at all. It took all about 20 minutes to remove the tape and get the sticky residue off the paint afterwards. I chose to remove the tape because I have a hardtop and it looks much better when the top is installed.

Others have found scratches, when attempting to remove the tape however it seems to be a very small percentage. The tape has been removed for over a year now and no chips or discoloration. I used stoner tarminator (great stuff) to remove the sticky residue and a few coats of z4 to shine it up!

They came out today and replaced the windshield again because the molding was so screwed up

I still have no mirror however, I think they are going to pay out so I can have the nicks repaired....maybe fresh paint
