I don't think snow removal is a statewide issue, but rather it is a city by city issue. It is up to the local government to decide on a winter weather budget. I know that after last year's big snowstorm in Charlotte, the budget was increased to just over $1,000,000. If you think about it though...that's really not a lot of money to be plowing roads in such a fast-growing city, especially with the rapid growth of the suburbs.

I ended up getting stuck in the snow last year, simply because it was falling at such an incredible rate for this area (in my backyard I measured 18 inches). With only 30-40 plow trucks in Charlotte, there was no chance of even getting to all the main roads 8-10 miles outside of uptown.

I grew up in vermont, the state doesn't have the budget for enough salt and sand, secondly people in this state can not drive, in addition they freakout and talegate in at the first sign of bad weather
last time i was in vermont, they didnt plow the roads except the major highways. i mean come on...there are like 15 people living in the state and plus everyone is driving a subaru there

as for snow removal, its a state issue with sub-contracting from city to city. i thought the removal in charlotte was good last year, but i also live in southend. the only problem was no businesses cleared their sidewalks. i was hoping to slip and fall so i could buy a new car

Complete gridlock!? Children having to spend the night in their schools!? From less than an inch of snow!? I don't get it. I really, really don't get it.
I hated it!

I never understood the freaking out and running to buy every last bit of bread on the shelves.
I was running a business with customers all over the country (and canada) so it was really a pain having people not be able to show up for work because of one inch of snow or ice.

Luckily we had some canadians on staff.... they always appointed themseves as bonafide choffeurs for everyone else! it was fun driving in the snow with them, always seeing things in the snow that you would ignore, doing controlled slides...

In years I never got used to it (the complete shut down). Even in the 2000 snow storm we managed to ferry some people to work thanks to the canadians.
